WrestleMania 33 was on full display over the weekend featuring a tackle from Patriots tight-end Rob Gronkowski on Jinder Mahal.
And the most famous “invisible” wrestling star in the world, John Cena, and his girlfriend Nikki Bella beat The Miz and Maryse in a mixed tag-team classic match, which inked its way into an all-time WrestleMania moment.
But following the match, one of the most anti-wrestling moments in WWE history took place.
The New York Post reported on the moment:
“Following the match, John Cena finally popped the question to Nikki Bella. In a sport that’s not ‘real,’ the moment appeared to be.
Cena and Bella began dating in 2012, but he had been very open about the fact that he preferred not to get married and have children.
In the buildup to their match at WrestleMania, Maryse taunted Nikki Bella over the fact that Cena had not yet proposed, saying that Bella was jealous of Maryse’s ring.”
It truly was an adorable moment, but it was also a bit shocking considering the environment.
WrestleMania isn’t exactly the atmosphere designed for a mushy proposal and a grown man brought to tears over his love for Nikki.
WWE tweeted the moment:
A #WrestleMania moment for the ages! After winning their #MixedTag, @JohnCena PROPOSES to Nikki @BellaTwins at The #UltimateThrillRide! pic.twitter.com/lnjviTTL6c

Not one fan booed.
Twitter erupted over the joyous occasion.

That’s why John Cena wears cargo shorts. Have to be able to hide the ring. #WrestleMania

It seemed like a fitting conclusion, because Cena is transitioning out of the full-time role with the WWE as he’s about to follow the star-studded movie career path like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson paved for him.
However, some people thought it was fake because the moment was used to boost Nikki’s career, and others thought the feud between The Miz and Maryse was designed to set up the proposal.
But Cena was actually crying. They were not invisible tears.
