8) Evil Dead II
Raimi’s “Evil Dead 2” has a funny story behind the making of it. Author Stephen King was such a huge fan of the original 1981 “The Evil Dead” that he convinced super producer Dino De Laurentiis to have his production company finance the sequel when they dined together one evening.
But for all intents and purposes, most considering it so, “Evil Dead II” is practically a remake of the first one. De Laurentiis gave Sam Raimi a much larger budget to do whatever he wanted with it.
However, the story for “Evil Dead II” has many different story elements from the original. So, is it really a remake? Except for Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, they wrote it with completely different characters and with different actors.
Big and loud. It’s gory, gross and scary. But the charm of “Evil Dead II” is the comical and over-the-top tone of it all. This was Bruce Campbell’s coming out party.
