7) Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
This may be the most important installment of the Star Trek franchise – between both television and film – because it introduces one of the universe’s best villains, Khan (Ricardo Montalban). They say your story is only as good as your antagonist and this is a perfect example of that theory. Khan is the perfect match for Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) because he’s more powerful than both of them.
Diehard fans, Trekkies, have an inside joke about the original “Star Trek” movies, which is that of the ten movies in the original saga, the odd-numbered ones suck and the even-ones are the best. The second movie installment is definitely the best of the original franchise, although one could make the case that JJ Abrams “Star Trek” is the best of them all.
But there’s no question “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” deserves to be on this list because it was way, way better than the “Original Motion Picture.”
