Chris Matthews of MSNBC tries to give the appearance of being moderate by occasionally beating up on liberals on his show. He also voted for Bush in 2000.
But make no mistake about it, he’s still a shill for the Democrats.
However, Matthews is one of the first Democratic talking heads to abandon ship on a massive, sinking, left-wing narrative.
Matthews admitted James Comey’s testimony proved that the story of Donald Trump’s collusion with Russia regarding the 2016 presidential election was running on empty.
From Fox News:
Even MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is now having trouble with the notion that there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Sean Hannity called out the mainstream media on his show Thursday night for advancing the faulty narrative for months based on “innuendo.”
Reacting to the James Comey Senate hearing, Matthews said the Trump-collusion theory “came apart.”
‘The assumption of the president’s critics, his pursuers you might say, is that somewhere along the line in the last year, the president had something to do with colluding with the Russians. Something to do, the helping hand, encouraging them, feeding their desire to affect the election in some way. Some role they played, some conversation he had with Michael Flynn or Paul Manafort or somewhere. But yet what came apart this morning was that theory.’
Matthews called it “fascinating” to hear Comey testify that Michael Flynn “wasn’t central to the Russia investigation.”
The host said that he assumed Flynn could potentially “flip” on Trump after being accused of not truthfully filling out federal forms to become national security advisor.
“And if that’s not the case, where’s the there there?” he asked.
Hannity said the media has been “breathlessly lying” about Trump and Russia since the election, but now even “Mr. Thrill Up His Leg” is doubting the story.
In the hearing, Comey also deemed inaccurate a February New York Times report that claimed Trump campaign associates contacted Russian intelligence multiple times.
As the truth continues to smack Democrats in the face, more of their commentators will be forced to abandon the “collusion” rhetoric. Matthews is simply ahead of the curve.
The longer Democrats in the news continue down that rabbit hole, the quicker they will be hit with deserved charges of “fake news”, or worse, venture into crazy town with Keith Olbermann.
Olbermann has doubled down and characterized the Comey testimony as the “most damning things ever spoken about any president in our history.” Olbermann is destined to be the last guy at the party.
Other prominent Democrats have grown fatigued of the Russia investigation; Ohio State Senator and Bernie Sanders supporter Nina Turner said, “No one in Ohio is asking about Russia…they want to know about jobs. They want to know about their children.”
However few, if any, commentators of Matthews’s ilk have broken ranks and begun to leave behind the tired Russia hysteria.
As the facts continue to roll out, it will be interesting to see who will follow Matthews’s lead.
