Brad Pitt exploded onto the scene when he was cast as the drifter in Thelma & Louise, and it wasn’t long before he turned in iconic performances in Se7en and Fight Club, which rocketed him to superstardom.
Saying Pitt has been in the spotlight since the early to mid-90s is a gross understatement. To put his fame in perspective, even Pitt’s love life and relationships with Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie – and their splits – were so highly publicized in every medium, that it was nauseously and insanely annoying.
But there is a darker, secret side of Brad Pitt that he’s just now openly talking about, and that caused his split from Angelina Jolie that nobody knew about previously.
Variety reports:
In a shockingly candid conversation for GQ Style’s latest cover story — and his first magazine interview since his high-profile split from Angelina Jolie fall — Brad Pitt opened up about the “self-inflicted” collapse of his relationship, which, as he put it, “ripped apart” his family.
Last September, Jolie filed for divorce after a reported altercation involving the couple’s 15-year-old son, Maddox, which launched an FBI and Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services investigation that Pitt was ultimately cleared of.
Since then, Pitt said that he and Jolie (who he still refers to as his “partner”) are primarily focused on co-parenting their six children.
‘I was really on my back and chained to a system when Child Services was called,” Pitt told GQ Style. ‘And you know, after that, we’ve been able to work together to sort this out.
We’re both doing our best. I heard one lawyer say, ‘No one wins in court — it’s just a matter of who gets hurt worse.’
And it seems to be true, you spend a year just focused on building a case to prove your point and why you’re right and why they’re wrong, and it’s just an investment in vitriolic hatred. I just refuse.
And fortunately my partner in this agrees. It’s just very, very jarring for the kids, to suddenly have their family ripped apart.’
And it’s obvious that Pitt’s antics while in his relationship weren’t accepted by Jolie, because on the set of 2016’s Allied is when things truly spiraled out of control.
Rumors spread fast when people learned about the shoot being a 3-month-long hard drug and alcohol binge amongst the cast and crew.
Maybe Jolie ignored that aspect but it was reported that he became infatuated with his co-star, Marion Cotillard, and had an affair with her during filming. Pitt was also accused of being involved with Lizzy Caplan.
Cotillard denied any connection and Caplan stayed silent on the matter. But Jolie was convinced, and there was a rumor that she hired private investigators to spy on him while on set.
Lots of rumors, but when you consider that they divorced and he’s been sober since an incident with Child Services – and when you compound that on the fact that he quit drinking – it’s probably true.
Brad Pitt commented on his life-changing moment in GQ:
“’I was really on my back and chained to a system when Child Services was called,’ Pitt told GQ Style. ‘And you know, after that, we’ve been able to work together to sort this out.
We’re both doing our best. I heard one lawyer say, ‘No one wins in court — it’s just a matter of who gets hurt worse.’ And it seems to be true, you spend a year just focused on building a case to prove your point and why you’re right and why they’re wrong, and it’s just an investment in vitriolic hatred.
I just refuse. And fortunately my partner in this agrees. It’s just very, very jarring for the kids, to suddenly have their family ripped apart.’”
Pitt admitted that he’s grieving in his divorce from Jolie, but Pitt claims he’s truly turned his life around and has quit every substance including alcohol, marijuana and cigarettes. Maybe we should expect better movies from him now.
