Nicolas Cage’s career spans nearly four decades and the spectrum of his movies has been a rollercoaster ride.
There was a time in the 1990’s when he won an Academy Award for Best Actor for “Leaving Las Vegas” and starring in big-budget action movies like “Conair” and “The Rock.” Now, he’s just a run-of-the-mill B-list actor who will do any movie that gives him a paycheck.
And you’re never going to believe the mess that Nicolas Cage just got himself into.
Nicolas Cage was one of the most sought after A-list actors in the 1980’s, 90’s and early 2000’s, which included films like “Raising Arizona,” “Face/Off,” “Gone in 60 Seconds,” and “Adaptation,” – the latter he was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor although he didn’t win.
He was hot. Cage was guaranteed box office success for two decades with a few bombs sprinkled in every now and then.
We know what he’s capable of but like most everything, all good things must come to an end and it certainly seems like his career is on that current trajectory.
Have you ever heard of “Dying of the Light,” “The Runner,” “Army of One,” “Vengeance: A Love Story,” “Inconceivable,” “211,” or “Between Worlds?”
No? It’s probably because they’re low-budget trash movies that will never make their money back.
Nicolas Cage’s modus operandi in recent years is that he will do any trash movie the production company wants so long as they pay him his quote. The 55-year-old actor falling from grace is an understatement.
And it looks like his career trajectory has affected his personal life.
You may not be aware the Academy Award winner was married late last month and then four days later he had already begun filing for an annulment, to dissolve the marriage.
Nicholas Cage married Erika Koike after a night of drinking in Las Vegas and he explains in the court documents that he was too drunk to cognitively agree to the marriage.
The court papers state, “Prior to obtaining a marriage license and participating in a marriage ceremony, [they] were both drinking to the point of intoxication.”
This is where the plot thickens, as they say.
According to TMZ, Koike didn’t agree with what was claimed in the court documents that the decision was somehow “impulsive,” which if the court agrees would not qualify for annulment.
That’s why Koike believes she’s eligible for spousal support and claimed she had lost out on lucrative career opportunities because of her relationship to the actor. Koike went as far as to say Cage’s reputation damaged her career.
But the good news and saving grace for Cage is he claims Koike never fully disclosed her checkered past with the law.
Koike was also arrested for DUI in Las Vegas last year and is still dealing with that open criminal case. She actually appeared in court last week and entered a not guilty plea and third-time offenders are treated with serious sentencing consequences if convicted.
Cage admitted to being “blackout” drunk when they got married. So they might just be perfect for each other.
