Many people have received the prestigious Medal of Freedom.
President Trump’s recipients include former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, baseball Hall of Famer George Herman “Babe” Ruth posthumous received his (twice) and musical legend Elvis Aaron Presley.
And President Trump feels this athlete deserves the Medal of Freedom for this recent win.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is an award of the highest honor bestowed upon civilians obviously by the President of the United States. President John F. Kennedy established the event in 1963 and is to be awarded to those winners on or around America’s Independence Day, July 4th.
Trump was over the moon on Saturday when Tiger Woods was in contention to win his fifth green jacket at The Masters.
The president tweeted, “Great playing by Tiger Woods (at the) The Masters. Tomorrow will be a big and exciting day for golf and for sports. Many fantastic players in the hunt. Ratings Gold – Good luck to all!”
He was right about the ratings because they were massive.
A CBS statement read, “CBS Sports’ final-round coverage of the 2019 Masters, which aired live Sunday morning due to the weather adjusted tee times (9:00 AM-3:00 PM, ET) and its encore presentation of the final-round (3:00-7:00 PM, ET), dominated the day’s sports landscape scoring the top two rated sports broadcasts of the day. Live coverage of the Masters final round delivered a 7.7/21 average household rating/share in the metered markets, the highest-rated morning golf broadcast in 34 years.* Yesterday’s final round also is the highest-rated golf broadcast on any network since last year’s Masters final round. The final-round peaked with a 12.1/28 rating/share from 2:15-2:30 PM, ET.”
Everyone knows that Trump is an avid golfer and Woods has been a good friend of his for many years.
Trump tweeted early on Sunday, “Great Masters going on right now. Tiger Woods is leading with 2 holes left to play. Very exciting, tune in!”
About 30 minutes later he tweeted, “Congratulations to Tiger Woods. A truly Great Champion!”
And Trump didn’t stop there.
On Monday, the day after Woods’ win, Trump tweeted, “Spoke to Tiger Woods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday’s The Masters & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!”
Woods has always had a lot of respect for President Trump.
It wasn’t long ago that a New York Times reporter complained to Tiger Woods about Trump’s politics at a press conference in a desperately hopeful attempt to try and goad him into agreeing about the politically climate.
Woods stopped him with, “He’s the President of the United States. You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”
Of course that was not the answer the reporter was looking for and Woods wasn’t about to feed into the New York Times liberal propaganda perpetuation.
Tiger Woods has had many setbacks over the last ten years and Trump is right that he definitely deserves the Medal of Freedom.
