The NFL has been forever tarnished by the anti-American anthem protests.
Countless fans, including a member of Congress, canceled their season tickets after NFL players disrespected the country in such a disgusting manner.
While the protests sadly spread to other sectors of American life, one sport hasn’t had such problems, and Donald Trump took notice.
NBA players have been required to stand for the national anthem since Denver Nuggets point guard Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (formerly Chris Jackson) protested the anthem in the 1996. However, many star players and coaches have spoken negatively about Trump and his obvious aversion to the anti-American displays.
Oakland A’s catcher Bruce Maxwell brought the protest to Major League Baseball, but later backtracked.
The NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell amazingly haven’t solved the problem of flag protesters, but NASCAR hasn’t had any such issue.
Patriotism is customary at NASCAR events, with American flags billowing all over energetic raceways.
The displays of Americanism haven’t gone unnoticed by President Trump.
From Breitbart:
Monday while honoring 2017 NASCAR Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr. and his Furniture Row Racing team at the White House, President Donald Trump took another shot at the NFL and recognized NASCAR for always standing for the National Anthem.
“At every NASCAR race you will see thousands of patriotic Americans, from the grandstands to the pit stalls, proudly waving our flag and roaring with joy at the words, ‘Gentlemen, start your engines.’ I will tell you, one thing I know about NASCAR, they do indeed … stand for the playing of the National Anthem,” stated Trump.
He added, “Somebody said, ‘Maybe you shouldn’t say that. That will be controversial.’ I said that’s OK. NASCAR is not going to mind it at all. They don’t mind it at all.”
I will tell you one thing I know about Barack Obama…he did indeed stand up for the United States and our DOJ and FBI over other countries interests…
Some have interpreted Trump’s praise of NASCAR as a direct swipe at the NFL. Whether or not that’s true, the NFL should take heed.
The overwhelming majority of fans don’t want to be preached to when they go to a sporting event for escapism, and they certainly don’t want to hear scornfully anti-American rhetoric.
NFL stadium attendance and television viewership plummeted, which led to decreased advertising revenue. When New York Giants owner John Mara contemplated signing Colin Kaepernick as a backup, he received an unprecedented deluge of fan letters opposing the move.
Even though leftists love to bash America, the rest of the country doesn’t, and definitely not at a sporting event.
NASCAR fans represent the general American patriotism that makes liberals squirm, roll their eyes, or even retch.
It doesn’t matter, because President Trump has NASCAR fans’ back.
