While America still battles the Wuhan virus, another pernicious virus is spreading across the country.
The virus of “wokeness” is ruining sports and culture as a whole.
And now the NFL could destroy its business with one insane boycott.
Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick opened Pandora’s Box and unleashed the plague of social justice on sports.
His anti-American anthem protest was lauded as heroic by essentially all of the so-called mainstream, particularly the sports media, which leans even further left on average.
Since then, Kaepernick has signed lucrative deals with major multimedia companies and fêted with humanitarian awards.
After the recent shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the left-wing calls to action have intensified even more.
The Milwaukee Bucks boycotted a playoff game in the name of Blake, and all the other teams in the playoffs followed suit.
The league was on the brink of boycotting the entire season before cooler heads finally prevailed.
But that didn’t stop the protests from spreading to the NFL, back where the madness started.
Nine NFL teams canceled practice in order to address the topic of social justice.
And there’s even been talk of players boycotting games.
Troy Vincent, NFL executive vice president of football operations, said during a radio interview regarding boycotts, “If we’re not expecting this is going to happen, then we’re not living in reality…They’re already happening,…We saw the young men in Detroit and Seattle and today in Washington…We’ve just got so much work to do.”
But the “work” is never done.
That’s the point of far-left activism.
Declare “systemic racism” the enemy, but there’s no way to quantify it or attack it, so there’s no metric to judge if the invisible enemy is being overcome.
This is a Marxist tactic to bring about revolutionary change by looking at disparities among groups and blaming it on racism, sexism, and many other identity politics markers.
It’s alarming how quickly this leftist ideology has spread.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees said he would never disrespect the American flag by kneeling during the national anthem, and he was ripped up and down for it.
Teammates that he’d known for years publicly called him out.
Brees was bullied into bending the three times, and even his wife was forced to apologize.
Now Brees decorated his helmet with Jacob Blake’s name on it during practice.
It doesn’t seem to matter that Blake is accused of digitally raping a woman while trespassing on her property and stealing her car keys.
The left-wing narrative has become more powerful than morality and truth.
If the NFL players were to go through with an actual boycott of games, it would destroy the brand for good.
It’s going to be off-putting enough for fans that they will be subjected to social justice messaging.
A boycott would be a bridge too far.
