Many renowned so-called journalists’ careers came to a screeching halt when the Me Too Movement exposed them of their alleged sexual misconduct, like for instance, Charlie Rose and Matt Lauer.
But former Fox News star, Megyn Kelly, didn’t need a nationwide movement to discover that her career crashed and burned faster than the Hindenburg Zeppelin. In fact, Kelly was in some ways part of the Me Too Movement when she accused former Fox President Roger Ailes of sexual harassment during her tenure on the news network.
And she just discovered how terrible it truly was after she learned about these key statistics.
Megyn Kelly’s show The Kelly File was one of Fox News’ biggest cash cows for several years until she demanded too much money and America’s leading news network was forced to let her go.
That’s when Kelly jumped ship over to the liberal NBC where they paid her an obscene amount money that was reportedly more than $20 million per year.
Her short career at NBC began with a sit-down with Russian President Vladimir Putin on her show Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly, which opened to abysmal ratings. They chalked it up that maybe her followers didn’t want to see an interview with Putin, but it turns out that it might’ve just been her because the show was canceled after a few short months.
Then they moved her to daytime with Megyn Kelly Today. You can guess what happened there too.
Now she has officially been bought out of her contract because NBC needed to stop the bleeding.
And the ratings for the Today show without her skyrocketed upon her departure.
Page Six reports that,“for the second time since Kelly, 48, exited the show, it beat ABC rival “Live! With Kelly and Ryan.” The third hour of “Today” — which now features NBC News talent including Dylan Dreyer, Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones and Craig Melvin — won over the syndicated ABC show for the week of Dec. 24, both in total viewers and the “key” 25-to-54 demographic, according to Nielsen.”
What this means is that the Today show has narrowed the gap in popularity amongst a key demographic that NBC thought would follow her from Fox News.
They were wrong and it cost them the rest of her contract to do so which was reported as an approximate $69 million payout.
What went wrong for Kelly?
It could be that the reason why her Fox News followers refused to switch over to the notoriously liberal NBC even if they did like her at one time.
Another reason may be the fact that she has been controversial on numerous occasions during her short tenure at NBC.
Kelly was embroiled in controversy when she publicly asked actress Jane Fonda about how much plastic surgery she’s had, which clearly made the Barbarella star extremely uncomfortable and offended.
In another instance, just before Halloween, she pondered why white people aren’t allowed to wear “blackface” on Halloween as a part of their costumes. This moment was so controversial that not only did it receive national attention, but she also apologized on the following show.
That’s when NBC decided to part ways with Kelly.
Now that NBC bought out her contract, she’s no longer an employee of the network, which means she’s free to search for another gig at her leisure. And apparently, that’s something on her radar because when she was met by paparazzi last week, they asked about her upcoming plans and she said, “You’ll definitely see me back [on TV].”
At this point, a network would have to be pretty desperate to hire Kelly. Which network would be that desperate?
