LeBron James has become a spokesman for the Democratic Party.
It all started when he campaigned for Hillary Clinton in 2016.
But James won’t like what his boss is doing in one political race.
NBA superstar LeBron James has been the face of Nike’s drift into “woke” messaging.
But even Oregon-based Nike founder Phil Knight has had enough of the Left.
The liberal billionaire is fed up with the far-left Democrats in his state, and he’s using all of his resources to help a Republican get elected governor.
Democrat Tina Kotek is hoping to replace outgoing Governor Kate Brown, who didn’t lift a finger to quell persistent Antifa violence in Portland.
During the 2020 riots, Antifa terrorists firebombed a federal courthouse for weeks, and the Oregon Democrats sat on their hands.
Their only concern was that Donald Trump wouldn’t send in the feds to stop the terrorism.
Knight, who rarely does interviews, told The New York Times that he is an “anti-Tina person.”
Knight threw money behind independent Betsy Johnson to peel away votes from Kotek, and now he’s all in on Republican Christine Drazan, who has a slight edge.
The Nike billionaire also told The Times, “One of the political cartoons after our legislative session had a person snorting cocaine out of a mountain of white…It said, ‘Which of these is illegal in Oregon?’ And the answer was the plastic straw.”
The cartoon Knight referenced is a perfect encapsulation of anarcho-tyranny that has gripped Democratic strongholds.
Lawbreakers like Antifa get to operate with impunity (anarchy) while law-abiding citizens—such as those who use plastic straws—get harshly punished (tyranny).
From The New York Times:
“Ms. Drazan’s candidacy received another jolt of momentum in recent days from Phil Knight, the billionaire co-founder of the sports giant Nike, Oregon’s largest company. In the early months of the campaign, he sent $3.75 million to the coffers of the independent candidate, Betsy Johnson, a former helicopter pilot who spent two decades as a thorn in Democrats’ side in the Oregon State Legislature before finally leaving the party last year. But as polls showed Ms. Johnson lagging well behind Ms. Kotek and Ms. Drazan, Mr. Knight, frustrated with what he described as a lurch too far to the left in the state’s government, switched his loyalty this month, sending $1 million to Ms. Drazan.”
Knight’s frustration with Oregon Democrats is felt by many in the state.
Portland is comically left-wing, and those politics bleed out to the rest of the state.
Some red counties in Oregon are even attempting to secede from the state and join Idaho.
Oregon has not had a Republican governor since 1982, but Joe Biden and the Democrats fear their 40-year reign could come to an end.
That’s why Biden made a late pit stop to the state in a desperate attempt to boost Kotek.
Drazan commented at a rally, “The only thing you can say about that is they are scared, they are desperate.”
This situation has to be awkward for James because he has been an anti-GOP crusader for the past six years.
Now he’s cashing checks from a man who’s actively attempting to get a Republican elected governor.
Drazan communications director John Burke said, “The DC political class is in full panic mode to rescue Tina Kotek’s failing and flailing campaign…They know Christine Drazan is going to win this race and there’s nothing they can do to stop that from happening.”
Knight is throwing millions into the race to prove Burke right.
