Hollywood just can’t stop putting their own spin on things.
Have you ever seen a big blockbuster studio movie that was an incoherent, tonally jumbled mess? That’s because every studio executive and producer on the movie arrogantly adds their own stamp on the project and none of their ideas line up.
And now Hollywood just turned a beloved superhero gay for an upcoming television series.
The CW is a midlevel cable network.
They are the network behind The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Smallville, Supergirl, Arrow, etc. But those superhero shows are the network’s only hits.
And the CW has Warner Bros’ and DC Comics to thank for their success.
But now they’re “thinking outside of the box” for their newest show.
The CW has officially announced they will produce a Batwoman superhero show that will feature the titular character as being a lesbian.
News recently broke that Ruby Rose will star as Kate Kane, affectionately known as the Batwoman. They plan on introducing her first in a crossover event amongst Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl.
There aren’t a lot of credits to Rose’s name, but she did storm onto the scene with her oddball character in the hit show Orange is the New Black, which features many gay characters.
Rose claims herself to be “gender fluid,” so that fits perfectly with the CW’s agenda to find the right actress.
With all of the news about Scarlett Johansson white-washing in Ghost in the Shell and having to drop out of a movie where she would’ve been portraying a transgender person, mitigating backlash over casting is definitely a serious issue in Hollywood right now.
The show’s summary reads, “Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
It goes without saying that this is just a female version of Batman, hence the name obviously.
This is another thing that’s become too prevalent in Hollywood right now, which is that they are switching genders from male to female on so many movies that already had built-in audiences.
The two most perfect examples of that in recent years is Ghostbusters and Ocean’s 8.
Neither of which will likely get a sequel.
And that should give you a good idea of how unoriginal Hollywood has become.
Instead of creating new female-driven movies with original storylines, they just recycle the old male-driven movies and flip the gender.
Unlike the female Ghostbusters, at least Ocean’s 8 was largely a well-liked movie, but why do they need the Ocean’s franchise to make a female-driven heist movie?
Make an individual heist movie separate from that franchise and then you could probably spawn more sequels.
But this is the Hollywood dynamic now. They want to be all encompassing of every gender and sexual preference. It won’t be long before gay characters hit the big screen.
You can bank on that.
