The United States women’s national team achieved worldwide fame beyond their wildest dreams after they won the World Cup.
They were all insufferably cocky; over-celebrating in blow out defeats, stirring controversy with their political rhetoric and mocking their opponents with the gestures they made after scoring.
And while millions of Americans hailed their success for a seemingly never-ending week following their win, you haven’t heard anything from them because everyone else has moved on.
The nonstop controversy from the United States women’s team was unbelievably obnoxious – embarrassing millions of Americans while they were in France for the World Cup.
It all started when captain Megan Rapinoe brought all of this notoriety to the team first with her “I’m not going to the f—king White House,” comment while also refusing to sing during the National Anthem.
Rapinoe opted not to sing instead of kneeling during the National Anthem, which she’s done multiple times in “solidarity” with former quarterback Colin Kaepernick during games in the National Women’s Soccer League.
On top of the political comments, their arrogance resonated throughout the world and were heavily criticized for celebrating after every single goal when they defeated Thailand 13-0.
After winning, they partied hard. Really hard. Every appearance they made seemed like they had been on a drinking bender and usually, the good indicator that’s true is the fact they were all wearing sunglasses during public appearances.
But their fifteen minutes of fame are up now.
Everyone’s moved on with their lives and the next time that any of us will pay attention will be in four years when the next World Cup happens.
When’s the last time you heard from Rapinoe and the other USWNT? It’s been a while, hasn’t it?
Actually, to be fair, Rapinoe was on CNN’s “The Van Jones Show” earlier this week and she criticized President Trump again about what he said about “The Squad,” which refers to the four Congresswomen.
She said, “I mean, it’s disgusting, to be honest. To say it’s disappointing that doesn’t even come close. I mean, it seems —I’m just like honestly waiting for like a racial slur to come out like we’re not far from it at all like how much closer do we need to be? But I just see it like the way everyone rallied —the homecoming for Omar, like welcome back home. That was just incredible. I think everyone is like disgusted by that. That’s not who we want to be as a country. And that just — I mean even his own party is like, ‘wow, too far. I mean, too far for even us.’”
Sure, we all care about what she thinks about politics. Of course, liberals hailed her every single day and it’s a little embarrassing that it came to that.
She also said, “I actually felt like it was going to be received a little better. Like, OK, well, woman, white, sort of non-threatening. No, that was not the case.”
Non-threatening? Is she serious right now?
Rapinoe incites hatred when she kneels for the National Anthem because nearly every American either is or was connected to somebody who puts their lives on the line so she can disrespect everything they do.
The worst embarrassing thing she said was “I’ll probably never put my hand over my heart. I’ll probably never the sing the National Anthem again.”
This is the kind of person she is and maybe the reason why she’s disappearing from the news is because people are wising up to her antics.
