Alec Baldwin’s career remains in limbo.
He’s awaiting repercussions from the tragic film shoot Rust.
And Baldwin got the worst news of his life after one horrific incident.
Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin has attempted to move on after he fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during the filming of the western Rust.
Baldwin recklessly pulled the trigger of a gun during rehearsal, believing that it was unloaded.
And after a lengthy investigation, Santa Fe authorities are prepared to charge Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter.
Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced, “In spite of this being an A-list actor, we’re treating everyone the same…We’re charging as we see where the law was violated, and not taking anything else into account…I don’t think it matters to the crux of the matter, which is that they got into a gun, and then the trigger was pulled in that gun while it was pointed at Halyna Hutchins.”
Not only was Baldwin an actor on the film, but he was also the producer, so much of the responsibility falls on his shoulders.
First assistant director David Halls and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed are also being charged in the shooting death of Hutchins.
Generally, first ADs are responsible for supervising safety on set, such as alerting cast and crew before a shot that real guns are being used and whether or not live rounds will be fired.
And the armorer is responsible for the handling of the guns.
Also, actors often check to ensure that they are not handling a loaded gun.
Actor George Clooney, who has starred in several action films, says that he checks to make sure the gun he’s holding is not loaded before every single take.
Nicolas Cage made a similar statement, explaining, “I don’t want to cast blame anywhere, but I do think, and I’m not talking about anybody, but people don’t like the word movie star. We want to be humble actors. But a movie star is a bit of a different kind of presentation because you need to know how to ride a horse…You need to know how to fight. You’re going to do fight scenes. You need to know how to ride a motorcycle. You need to know how to use a stick shift and drive sports cars, and you do need to know how to use a gun. You do. You need to take the time to know what the procedure is. Those are part of the job profiles.”
It appears that Santa officials believe Baldwin failed in that procedure.
Special prosecutor Andrea Reeb said, “If any one of these three people—Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed or David Halls—had done their job, Halyna Hutchins would be alive today.”
The defendants claim that they will be vindicated in court.
Luke Nikas, Baldwin’s attorney, said in a statement that his client “relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds…We will fight these charges, and we will win.”
Baldwin is now in the fight of his life.
