Star Ohio State University defensive end and second overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers was by far the most controversial selection in this year’s NFL draft.
The reason why is because the white defensive end was known to be a patriotic unapologetic President Trump supporter while being critical of disgraced former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
But a pro-Kaepernick 49ers teammate of Nick Bosa’s surprised everyone with this comment about the rookie defensive lineman.
Nick Bosa was arguably one of the most skilled position players to come out of this year’s NFL draft and he was inarguably the best at the defensive end position. The Arizona Cardinals held pat with the number one overall pick and as we approached the big day it became quite clear they were in the business for a quarterback, Kyler Murray.
That left star Ohio State University defensive end on the board for the San Francisco 49ers and given his instantly translatable from college to pros talent, there was no way he was slipping.
Approximately three years ago on social media, Bosa famously called embattled former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick a “clown,” presumably because of his divisive anthem kneeling. Bosa had also tweeted his support for President Trump throughout the years and called him the “GOAT.”
Also, in the past, Bosa had posts criticizing the film “Black Panther,” supporting Tomi Lahren and slamming Beyonce’s music.
But you won’t find those tweets any longer.
Bosa deleted anything that could potentially get him in trouble with fans and teammates given the fact he was headed for San Francisco. It was absolutely a public relations move likely influenced by his manager. “I had to,” Bosa said of the decision to scrub the posts in an interview with ESPN. “There is a chance I might end up in San Francisco.”
49ers safety Antone Exum caught up with TMZ Sports the other day and said, “Man, I love Nick Bosa. He just got me to stop eating eggs the other day.”
Then the TMZ Sports cameraman pried a little more to which Exum cut him off with, “There will be no animosity as long as he’s rushing that quarterback.”
The thing about Exum’s demeanor in the video is that he seems genuine. It no way did it appear to be disingenuous and that this was some sort of a professional courtesy to say something nice about his new teammate.
However it seems like the media is just waiting for a new scoop; as if they’re hoping Bosa causes trouble or gets into a fight so they can blame his “controversial” views.
ESPN is the guiltiest party in this equation. Whether or not Bosa’s teammates would embrace him as their teammate was a popular topic on shows like “First Take,” “Get Up,” “High Noon” and “Around the Horn.”
When Bosa was drafted too, President Trump tweeted a congratulatory message to the brand new 49er: “Congratulations to Nick Bosa on being picked number two in the NFL Draft. You will be a great player for years to come, maybe one of the best. Big Talent! San Francisco will embrace you but most importantly, always stay true to yourself. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
The only havoc Bosa will cause as a 49er is in the opposing quarterback’s pocket.
