The San Francisco 49ers just did one of the most unthinkable things in the franchise’s history.
They actually hired a President Trump supporter, Ohio State Buckeye Nick Bosa, with their second overall pick in April’s 2019 NFL Draft even thought it was considered ill-advised to do so. He was a highly controversial pick considering how his political affiliation would weigh in an NFL locker room despite actually deleting his social media presence in advance.
But when asked about it, the San Francisco 49ers admitted something surprising about their newly drafted player.
Unfortunately, being a President Trump supporter in the modern era NFL locker room is considering to be one of the worst kinds of ideologies to have in any sports locker room.
The fact is that most athletes despise Trump to the point where it’s cool to hate him. It can actually bring about camaraderie on a team to collectively hate the current administration.
Nick has been unapologetic about it until lately when he was forced to delete his tweets because he admitted if he went to the 49ers then it might stir some controversy about his political affiliation.
San Francisco is one of the most liberally progressive cities in America today and if his philosophies don’t fall in line with theirs then there is a big problem. He noted that, and that’s the reason why he deleted his viewpoints on social media.
That’s why Trump gave him a shoutout on Twitter after he was drafted with:
“Congratulations to Nick Bosa on being picked number two in the NFL Draft. You will be a great player for years to come, maybe one of the best. Big Talent! San Francisco will embrace you but most importantly, always stay true to yourself. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
But as it turns out – the San Francisco 49ers didn’t really care about Bosa’s political affiliation or whether it would have an impact in the locker room.
Nick had been hyper-critical of divisive and disgraced quarterback Colin Kaepernick in the past, which of course, led the liberal media to put him under a microscope and caused him to delete all tweets that were in the slightest bit subversive.
During an interview on Bloomberg’s “Business of Sports” podcast, 49ers President Al Guido was asked whether the team was concerned about bringing an outspoken Trump supporter and Kaepernick critic to San Francisco.
Guido said, “Not at all. It doesn’t mean we didn’t do background on the kid, doesn’t mean we didn’t bring it up and ask him the question, but look — if we’re going to get in a world where we’re not drafting Republicans or not drafting Democrats… The way that I think about it is, ‘he’s a young kid, he had a perspective.’ That perspective is fine, some of other stuff he did I think was a little insensitive and needs to learn from.”
What’s surprising about this comment is how San Francisco is undeniably one of the most progressive cities in the whole country.
This was the first city who had the first openly gay mayor in California history and was subsequently assassinated.
They’ve always been on the forefront of aggressive liberalism which might be the exact reason why they have such an economic, homelessness issue.
But that progressiveness didn’t weight into Guido’s decision when he said, “Honestly, I spent no time worrying about it, I know John Lynch spent no time worrying about it, we worry about the kid himself, not necessarily his political leanings.”
In any case, Nick Bosa felt the strong need to delete his tweets because he thought it might lead to bad blood in the locker room.
And if his Pro Bowl brother is any indication about how potentially great Nick can be, then he will destroy the league as an elite defensive “edge rusher” end and his politics will have zero to do with it. His teammates better get used to it and fast.
