5) Terminator 2: Judgment Day
James Cameron is one of the most prolific filmmakers of all time. “Avengers: Endgame” surpassed “Titanic” and “Avatar” as the highest-grossing movie of all time but Cameron had first and second place for a long time.
“Terminator” was without a doubt an iconic movie about a robot from the future with only one objective: kill Sarah Connor. It was pretty much a horror film, although, maybe you could call it an intense thriller, but Cameron decided to take “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” in a new genre/tonally different direction. Not only is the character Terminator – played by Arnold Schwarzenegger – a good guy in the sequel but it also moves away from the thriller/horror genre to make it more of a solid big budget action movie with huge set pieces.
For early 1990’s, which still holds up today, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” was revolutionary in special and practical effects. Also at the time, it was the biggest budget for a movie thus far proving to be an incredibly successful gamble for the rated-R movie.
Cameron’s story for the sequel was so different from the first and it was welcomed by millions of fans.
