Liberal celebrities are coming out of the woodwork to virtue signal.
That’s what they do whenever a controversial political issue is in the news.
Now Meghan Markle promoted a foolish message after one Supreme Court decision.
Meghan Markle was not satisfied with being a princess.
She also wanted to be a Hollywood star.
Marrying into the Royal Family served as a stepping stone for her middling acting career, or so she thought.
Markle has not landed any desired roles; she allegedly told her manager to pursue a role in an ensemble blockbuster franchise.
It turns out that Markle has alienated many people in the UK and across the pond in the United States.
But that hasn’t stopped her from virtue-signaling about abortion after the landmark decision in the Dobbs case that reversed the bad precedent of Roe v. Wade.
Markle sat down for a puff-piece interview with Vogue Magazine and second-wave feminist Gloria Steinem.
The two exchanged platitudes about abortion “rights” and the boogeyman of “the patriarchy.”
Markle started off by explaining, “Women are already sharing stories of how their physical safety is being put in danger. Women with resources will travel to get an abortion, those without might attempt to give themselves one at tremendous risk. Some will have to source abortion pills from unregulated pharmacies. Others who are pregnant and find themselves in a medical emergency will be at the mercy of doctors and lawyers to determine if a procedure that is needed to save her life can even be done at all. What does this tell women? It tells us that our physical safety doesn’t matter, and as a result that we don’t matter. But we do. Women matter. And this is one of the reasons that I called Gloria immediately.”
So Markle called Steinem to set up a self-serving interview.
She doesn’t even realize how phony she comes off to people.
And her paranoia about women’s safety is unfounded.
The overturning of Roe simply returns the question of abortion to the states.
Also, red states with heartbeat bans at six weeks have not seen an uptick in the horrors Markle is talking about.
Over 90% of abortions are done for reasons other than hardship; abortion has effectively become a backstop form of contraception.
Markle continued, “This is a blueprint for reversing rights. The ruling is a signal about the future of same-sex marriage, contraception access, and many fundamental rights to privacy. It feels like the tip of the iceberg and is part of why people feel so scared. We have to channel that fear into action. We can start this November in the midterms. I know hearing that feels so repetitive, but we have to vote, every time, from local elections to state and national elections.”
The fear-mongering from the left is ridiculous.
It depends on willful ignorance of the Constitution and the arguments put forth by Justice Clarence Thomas.
But Democrats have nothing if they can’t scare people into running to the polls for them.
Markle is trying to get in on the act, but people will likely see through this move, too.
