Hollywood has not had a good year at the box office.
Top Gun: Maverick saved the summer from being a complete bust.
And leftists are blaming one box office flop on something too stupid for words.
Hollywood executives definitely want to make money, but they’re also interested in pushing left-wing messaging.
That’s why Universal Pictures put out the gay romantic comedy Bros, which was destined to be a box office disaster.
Romantic comedies have been box office poison for many years now, so an openly gay rom-com had no chance of finding a broad audience.
And Bros was dead on arrival, grossing a pitiful $4.8 million on opening weekend despite a wide release in 3,350 theaters.
With an average movie ticket price of $12, that means each theater only sold about 119 tickets for the entire weekend.
Billy Eichner, the star and co-writer of the film, blamed straight people for not going to see his movie.
Eichner, an open socialist, wrote on Twitter, “That’s just the world we live in, unfortunately. Even with glowing reviews, great Rotten Tomatoes scores, an A CinemaScore etc, straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn’t show up for Bros. And that’s disappointing but it is what it is. Everyone who ISN’T a homophobic weirdo should go see BROS tonight! You will have a blast! And it *is* special and uniquely powerful to see this particular story on a big screen, esp for queer folks who don’t get this opportunity often. I love this movie so much. GO BROS!!”
Leftists have a nasty habit of trying to shame the people that they want something from.
Some people on Twitter responded, “Oh honey, I’m a gay and I have no interest in any movie using this kind of guilt tripping for marketing. You got your shot; you failed at making the next ‘Trick.’”
Another user said, “If you have to insult people to see a movie, then I highly doubt it is any good.”
Someone else replied, “I don’t even like romcoms with straight people.”
Ultimately, Bros is a niche film that was marketed as a mainstream romantic comedy at a time when that genre is not doing well at the box office.
Prior to the release of the film, Eichner boasted, “Bros is making history as the first gay rom-com ever made by a major studio…And the first where every role is played by an openly LGBTQ actor…We need to show all the homophobes like Clarence Thomas and all the homophobes on the Supreme Court that we want gay love stories and we support LGBTQ people.”

Unfortunately for Eichner, the people have spoken and they were not interested in seeing the film.
Bros is the latest example of get woke, go broke.
The movie should have been marketed as a niche film, like other gay-themed movies that did not have any big stars.
Leftists cannot accept the fact that their worldview does not appeal to a wide swath of Americans.
