6) Point Break
Let’s not kid ourselves here. Reeves performance in “Point Break” isn’t great, but the movie is fantastic. Reeves plays a former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback, turned rookie FBI agent, turned undercover cop/California surfer – trying to catch a gang of surfing bank robbers who call themselves The Ex-presidents. Agent Utah gets in too deep infiltrating The Ex-presidents while developing a close relationship with the leader, Bodhi (Patrick Swayze), and ultimately complicating things, forcing Utah to choose between his friendship and his job as an FBI agent.
Kathryn Bigelow developed this early 1990s masterpiece with her then-husband James Cameron. You’ve probably heard that name before, no?
Swayze truly steals the show, but don’t sleep on Gary Busey’s performance in this movie either. Although Reeves is mostly just serviceable in this role, it’s just enough to make it a tent pole of that time period.
