Two things are definitely true about Kanye West; he’s a genius, but he also clearly has mental health issues. The message being that just because he does have bipolarism, doesn’t mean he’s not right about certain things.
West seems to be going back and forth about whether to jump into the presidential race because one minute it seems like he is and then the next it seems like a delusion.
But in the midst of his internal chaos, Kanye West sent an awesome message to Black America about voting for former Vice President Joe Biden that he’s absolutely spot-on about.
Superstar rapper Kanye West announced he was running for president, but then it was discovered it was too late to get on the ballot in some states, so he cancelled, and then he went on a weird publicity tour to discuss his potential bid, which looked bleak at that point. Suddenly, he’s in South Carolina holding a rally announcing his candidacy, and that didn’t go well to say the least.
With less than a hundred days left, it’s probably safe to say that Kanye West’s name will not make it onto the ballot come November.
But that doesn’t mean he’s not allowed to speak truth to power. That’s exactly what he’s been doing for the last couple of weeks. Sure, West has said some really bizarre things and is genuinely misinformed on a lot of subjects, but he’s allowed to say whatever he wants because this is a free country.
One of his biggest frustrations came out last week when he wrote on Twitter, “#2020VISION or maybe ’24. I guess all black people supposed to vote on [Joe] Biden? Y’all want me to run on [sic] nah???”
The suggestion that all black people are “supposed” to vote for Biden is presumably a reference to comments made by the former vice president in an interview back in May where Biden said that black people who don’t vote for him “ain’t black.”
Not to mention, Biden and former President Bill Clinton’s so-called crime bill of the 1990’s was a direct contributor to the mass incarceration of Black Americans that still goes on today.
And somehow Biden is supposed to be the hero Black Americans are looking for? President Trump is directly responsible for all-time low unemployment numbers for the black community. What are people confused about here? Do you want the current president who has contributed to their livelihoods or the former vice president who is directly responsible for their mass incarceration?
Kanye West is absolutely right.
He aptly told his supporters, who are predominantly black: “Do you realize I’m putting my life on the line for the truth? I understand it’s exciting. It’s a new world, to have someone who’s not afraid of anyone and only afraid of God and in honor of God.”
Following his recent publicity “tour,” West got a visit from his longtime friend Dave Chappelle when he flew out to his Wyoming ranch for a visit.
Whatever Chappelle told West really spoke to him because following that visit, he reportedly begged his wife, Kim, to forgive him. West is obviously an eccentric person but as Kim pointed out in her statement, “I understand Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions. He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, [he also has] to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words [sometimes] do not align with his intentions.”
Bi-polar disorder is a serious condition but that doesn’t mean any of us should invalidate his opinions, particularly when it comes to Joe Biden. He’s absolutely right about Biden.
