Kanye West is the most prolific rapper of his generation.
It wasn’t too long ago that the Grammy Award winning musician declared his unwavering support towards President Trump, but West confessed recently that his position has changed.
And Kanye West just made a huge presidential announcement you won’t believe.
Kanye West used to be one of President Trump’s biggest supporters. The whole world watched West be unapologetically enthusiastic about President Trump’s administration, but he recently did a one-eighty on that support.
West officially declared a bid for President of the United States about two weeks ago and went on a semi-publicity tour to explain why.
The reasoning West gave on why he turned his back on President Trump was completely ridiculous and ill-informed. West said the Trump administration is “one big mess to me” and declared, “I don’t like that I caught wind that he hid in the bunker.”
That is grossly taken out of context. President Trump admitted that the Secret Service showed him the bunker just in case the protesters outside of the White House didn’t transform into a dangerous violent mob.
West announced his candidacy for president on July 4th, but it became clear that it was a pipe dream when it was discovered he hadn’t filled out the necessary paperwork to get onto the ballot.
But that changed on Sunday night in South Carolina when West held a political campaign rally to get on the ballot for that state. Let’s just say that it was an unmitigated disaster. At one point, West said some dangerously offensive remarks about abolitionist Harriet Tubman saying, “Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had slaves go to work for other white people.”
The crowd became immediately uncomfortable. West was actually booed and if you watch the video, some people got up to leave right then and there.
Fellow colleague hip-hop artists like 50 Cent and Q-Tip quickly condemned those comments. It’s become quite clear to many that West is mentally ill. His wife, Kim Kardashian, claimed he didn’t take medication and that this is an “episode.”
But for all intents and purposes, West was back in the race, testing the waters about the legitimacy of a run at president.
However, West got a new wakeup call about that on Monday.
In a statement to USA Today, South Carolina State Election Commission spokesperson Chris Whitmire confirmed the 43-year-old rapper did not submit any of the 10,000 petition signatures needed to get on the state’s ballot by Monday’s noon deadline.
That cutoff date is normally July 15th but had been extended by five days due to the spread of the coronavirus resulting in a state emergency. The South Carolina Election Commission website also does not list any filings by West, nor from the BDY political party that is linked to Kanye 2020 registration paperwork filed with the Federal Election Commission.
West probably won’t run for president. The Grammy Award winner also just announced that he wants a divorce from his wife, Kim, and also called Kim’s mom, Kris, “Kris Jong-Un” and actually accused her of releasing Kim’s infamous sex tape. Kris has categorically denied those rumors.
On Monday night, it was announced that standup comedian Dave Chappelle flew to Wyoming to visit Kanye West for the purposes of talking some sense into him. West clearly needs help and we should all hope that he gets it. His presidential announcement seems like a manipulative ploy. After all, he does have a new album coming out soon.
