Jerry Seinfeld is fed up with the current climate of comedy.
While other comics have bowed at the altar of political correctness, Seinfeld refuses to do so.
Now Seinfeld is speaking on the giant blunder the Academy Awards just made.
Jerry Seinfeld has had a successful career as a standup comedian and as the lead of arguably the most popular sitcom of all-time.
He’s also seen a bit of a renaissance with his Netflix series “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.”
But a few years ago, Seinfeld said something that the progressive crowd in Hollywood didn’t like.
He said that PC culture was ruining comedy.
Seinfeld said he’d no longer play college campuses because the students had turned into politically correct zombies.
Many other comedians have followed suit.
Comic legend and Seinfeld friend Chris Rock also refuses to play colleges and even got into a bit of hot water when he tweeted an article from The Federalist, a conservative news site, decrying the rise of cultural authoritarianism in comedy.
Seinfeld was proven right, and each data point is scarier than the previous.
Some universities are now requiring comics to sign a pledge to provide a “safe space” by not engaging in any “offensive” comedy.
Even hardcore leftist comedians like Trevor Noah have felt the wrath of the PC mob.
The latest and most troubling incident involves comedian Kevin Hart.
Hart was tapped to host the upcoming Academy Awards, fulfilling a lifelong dream of his.
But that was dashed when radical homosexual activists combed through Hart’s Twitter feed to find off-color jokes he made — and subsequently apologized for — years ago.
At first, Hart refused to apologize yet again and faced the left-wing activist tsunami.
But ultimately the deluge was too much, and Hart backed out from his hosting gig.
This raised the hackles of Seinfeld, who defended Hart and blasted the lynch mob.
Seinfeld told the Hollywood Reporter, “And when you look at the situation — well, who got screwed in that deal? I think Kevin is going to be fine, but find another Kevin Hart: That’s not so easy. He’s a brilliant guy with a movie career.”
Again, Seinfeld was right.
The disaster has led the Oscars to consider going hostless.
Time is running out.
The awards show is in February and requires a ton of preparation.
The longer the search for a host goes, the increased likelihood there will be no host.
Lost in the hubbub over Hart losing his job is the reason why it happened.
Hart lost the hosting gig because he’s not harsh enough on Donald Trump and Republicans.
If he relentlessly attacked the right the same way Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman, Chelsea Handler, Michael Ian Black, and other leftist comics do, he would still be hosting the Oscars.
This relates to a ridiculous statement recently made by Michelle Obama.
She said the Obamas had to be perfect, otherwise, the media would crucify them.
But the exact opposite was the case.
The mainstream media handled them with kid gloves, and seemingly ignored Fast & Furious, Benghazi, the Lois Lerner IRS investigation, and other fiascos in order to brand Barack Obama’s administration “scandal-free.”
If a celebrity is sufficiently left-wing, he or she can get away with almost anything, because the media will protect them.
Hollywood allowed Harvey Weinstein to prey on women for decades until his crimes became too bold to ignore.
The left now requires celebrities to be vocally anti-conservative in order to be protected by the media.
A popular, and chilling, phrase among the left is “silence is violence.”
Kevin Hart learned that lesson in proverbial blood.
