The NFL is suffering dearly in the ratings game.
Viewership remains depressed despite a slate of entertaining games.
And one Hall of Famer just gave a stern warning to the NFL.
Professional sports leagues have made a big mistake catering to “woke” politics.
The American people don’t want it and they prove that every day by changing the channel.
The NBA has completely fallen off a cliff with their full-throated embrace of the avowedly Marxist group Black Lives Matter, but the NFL has suffered, too.
And Hall of Famer quarterback Brett Favre is sounding the alarm bell on the problem.
During Q&A session with Eric Bolling, Donald Trump got a surprise call-in from Favre who recently said Trump has done a good job as president.
Favre asked Trump a question that highlighted what’s wrong with the professional sports leagues.
Favre said, “The NBA and the NFL are struggling with lower ratings, as fans clearly do not want political messaging mixed with their sports…So how should the leagues support and promote an anti-racism position without becoming political and alienating fans?”
As Favre points out, the fans are rejecting the in-your-face politics.
In fact, the relentless left-wing messaging has driven Fox News’s ratings to unbelievable heights.
Trump answered, “People don’t want to see all of the politics. They’ve got enough politics, with me and with everybody else. And they don’t want to see it with football or sports, on Sunday or whenever they happen to be watching…If people want to protest, they can. But they shouldn’t be protesting on the sidelines during the football game, especially when they are making $10 million a year.”
This is the correct answer.
As for Favre’s question about what the league can do, the league is playing its part by paying and promoting its athletes.
The NFL has created more black millionaires than any leftist policy ever could, and the players have the money and notoriety to promote whichever causes they wish.
The line in the sand is making the game itself political.
People don’t care about the politics of the grocery store owner or any of the employees when they need food or household items.
The same should hold true for sports entertainment.
Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher put it best when he called out NBA players for boycotting a playoff game after the shooting of alleged rapist Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Urlacher recounted the story of Favre playing a legendary game after his father had died.
Meanwhile, NBA players are so distraught over the shooting of a man who violated a restraining order and resisted arrest.
Woke politics is killing sports entertainment.
The leftist don’t care one way or the other.
Some of them admittedly want to see football abolished, so if they kill Americans’ enthusiasm for the sport through constant political messaging, it’s a win-win for the radical leftists.
The NFL and NBA need to course-correct before it’s too late.
