Liberals hate President Trump with every bone in their bodies and he can’t do anything right in their minds. It’s a festering disease that only grows and grows to the point of malevolency against him.
There are literally only a handful of things that liberals can look at and say “hey, that’s the right decision!”
Well, one of those things just happened when Trump decided against the government defunding this sporting event.
Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, is genuinely one of the most hated individuals in President Trump’s cabinet.
Leftists attack her job performance every chance they get.
DeVos recently put out her proposed cuts in the Education budget and one of them was cutting $18 million from the Special Olympics. What you have to realize before you judge this cut is that the Special Olympics is largely privately funded and the money they receive from the federal government is just added fixture.
That doesn’t make it right nor noble to make such a move. After all, you have to consider how it looks versus the damage it will do.
The Secretary of Education defended her proposed cuts by saying, “I think the Special Olympics is an awesome organization, one that is supported by the philanthropic sector as well.”
But that’s when President Trump interceded in this proposal and put a stop to the defunding.
What was supposed to be an $18 million cut was reversed by Trump and he said, “The Special Olympics will be funded, I just told my people.”
Then DeVos chimed in and said after she heard the news, “I am pleased and grateful the president and I see eye-to-eye on this issue, and that he has decided to fund our Special Olympics grant. This is funding I have fought for behind-the-scenes over the last several years.”
To be honest, the outrage is understandable if you’re only hearing about the facts through the media.
If you only considered that the federal government exclusively funded the Special Olympics then, of course, you would be outraged – and unfortunately, that’s what most liberals assumed.
That’s not the case. The federal government funding is an added exposure where they receive zero money back for it.
It would be like if the federal government added money to the NBA or NFL when the financials are already in place. It’s the stigma that it’s the “Special Olympics” that bothers people and understandably so.
However, in 2017, Special Olympics Chairman Timothy Shriver told MSNBC on Wednesday that losing federal funding would hurt the organization’s school programs for children with intellectual disabilities and increase their “social isolation.”
Now, that could be true but it’s unlikely because the donors to the Special Olympics are fully aware of the importance of such an event and it will go on whether the federal government has anything to do with it or not.
Thankfully, Trump recognized that.
