ESPN is dying a slow death.
The sports news pioneer lost millions of subscribers and viewers, largely due to their dedication to progressive politics.
But ESPN just made one bold move that could mean they’re serious about fixing their tarnished brand.
Everything Is Political
Sports are conservative by nature.
Hard work and personal responsibility are the only ways to become good.
The good players make the team.
The good teams win.
Everyone else doesn’t make excuses for losing.
However, leftists believe every part of life should be political.
Unfortunately, that includes sports.
ESPN took up the mantle.
Suddenly, Caitlyn Jenner, formerly Bruce Jenner, received an ESPY for female athletic achievement despite not competing in sports for decades.
Then poetry from cop killer and escaped convict Assata Shakur appeared on espnW, the network’s female-centric page.
Things only got worse.
Left-Wing Cesspool
It wasn’t enough that ESPN became a haven for progressive politics.
The network had to purge conservatives.
Curt Schilling, Mike Ditka, Britt McHenry, and others were let go for expressing conservative views.
Meanwhile, leftist hosts rose through the ranks.
Jemele Hill and Michael Smith got the hosting gig for primetime SportsCenter.
Hill became notorious for spouting racist views. She called the entire Trump administration “white supremacist,” yet received no punishment.
The left even turned her into a hero.
Hill finally got a slap on the wrist when she attacked Disney corporate sponsors in an attempt to lead a boycott against Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
The network also pumped millions into ratings disaster “Get Up!” hosted by Mike Greenberg, Jalen Rose, and Michelle Beadle.
Greenberg tried to corral viewers by promising the show wouldn’t be political.
Fans didn’t believe him, and rightly so.
Rose and Beadle have made several politically-charged statements, the worst being Beadle.
In light of the #MeToo movement, Beadle called for the San Francisco 49ers to cut linebacker Reuben Foster after allegations of domestic violence.
Beadle didn’t wait for the facts.
Once the police investigated, they learned Foster’s ex-girlfriend not only lied, she served jail time for falsely accusing a previous boyfriend of assault.
Ombudsman Jim Brady detailed the oppressive liberal bias at the network in an extensive piece.
ESPN found his report so useful, they fired him.
Restructuring?
In light of the massive loss of subscribers and failure of former CEO John Skipper, ESPN could be making a big change.
Newly-minted CEO James Pitaro supposedly wants to get the network re-focused on sports.
The bold move he recently made was to cut ties with Jemele Hill and her constant racism.
Pitaro was so eager to move on he reportedly bought out her contract for $6 million.
This move came after Hill and Smith were pulled off SportsCenter due to poor ratings.
Once Kevin Negandhi and rare conservative anchor Sage Steele replaced the progressive duo, SportsCenter’s ratings shot up.
If Pitaro is serious about fixing things, Hill had to go, even if it meant eating six million bucks.
Beadle could be on this ice, too.
The leftist co-host will be off “Get Up!” after stating she will no longer watch football because it marginalizes women and people of color.
She has the leftist talking points down to a science.
If ESPN gets back to talking sports, maybe the “worldwide leader in sports” can be great again.
