Journalist Ronan Farrow was the one who exposed the initial Hollywood power players that launched the nationwide Me Too movement in October 2017.
Amongst the most powerful celebrities exposed were super-producer Harvey Weinstein, comedian Louis C.K. and Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey.
And Steve Carell’s character in his newest show undeniably mirrors this person exposed in the Me Too scandal.
Too often Hollywood insists on deflecting or projecting morality onto the American people instead of looking in the mirror. It’s the very definition of hypocrisy.
Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions were about to release a horror/thriller in September called “The Hunt,” about a bunch of wealthy thrill-seeking liberals that hunt a dozen MAGA-like deplorables – the term then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton used on the 2016 campaign trail about President Trump supporters.
President Trump blasted the movie on Twitter.
He wrote, “Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate! They like to call themselves “Elite,” but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite. The movie coming out is made in order….
He continued, “….to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!”
Universal Pictures was forced to pull the plug on their September release and there’s no timetable whether it will see the light of day at all.
But a new Apple TV+ show is about to stream on their app called “The Morning Show,” which is a behind-the-scenes look of a morning television show that stars Jennifer Anniston, Reese Witherspoon, Mark Duplass, Billy Crudup, and Steve Carell.
The trailer dropped this week and Aniston’s character opens with a dramatic monologue before her morning audience that says, “Good morning, I’m bringing you some sad and upsetting news, and while I don’t know the details of the allegations… my co-host and partner of 15 years was fired today.”
Carell’s character watches this from the comfort of his home and mutters, “She’s throwing me under the bus,” and then proceeds to smash his own television.

Carell’s character clearly echoes or emulates Matt Lauer.
The first scenes are reminiscent of a November 2017 moment when NBC News anchor Savannah Guthrie informed “Today” show viewers that Lauer was fired for sexual misconduct at the height of the Me Too Scandal.
It’s unclear how much “The Morning Show” will mirror Lauer’s situation, but the show’s creators certainly have plenty to work with. Lauer was accused of everything from sexual misconduct to having a secret button that could essentially turn that office into a private sex lair.
