One of the things plaguing Democrats and Hollywood elitists right now is that they are so desperate to find someone to contend against President Trump in 2020 that they are willing to consider anybody, like throwing darts in the dark.
They gauge each of their crazy candidate considerations by throwing it on the Twitterverse and seeing if anything sticks. On the other hand, some of these celebrities actually believe they could do a better job, which is unsurprising considering how they all are.
And this one a-lister just hinted at a 2020 run and it was genuinely surprising.
The list of candidates to be the Democratic nominee for president isn’t very long and the front-running politicians include former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders and the Democrat who lost the Texas race to Sen. Ted Cruz, Beto O’Rourke.
But others think outside the box of the normal political parameters and have been regurgitating the same celebrity names over and over like television mogul Oprah Winfrey, actor George Clooney, mega movie star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and “America’s Father” Tom Hanks.
In fact, Johnson and Tom Hanks made this joke on Saturday Night Live over a year ago where they on the same ticket together.
None of them seem to take it seriously though, except for Dwayne Johnson who only seems to acknowledge he may seek political office only when he’s got a giant movie about to come out. It seems like it’s purely for publicity reasons.
However, actress Angelina Jolie might seriously consider running against Trump in 2020.
She said, “If you asked me 20 years ago, I would’ve laughed… I always say I’ll go where I’m needed, I don’t know if I’m fit for politics… but then I’ve also joked that I don’t know if I have a skeleton left in my closet.”
The 43-year-old actress is a special envoy to the United Nations Refugee Agency, which probably gave her the confidence to say, “I’m also able to work with governments and I’m also able to work with militaries, and so I sit in a very interesting place of being able to get a lot done.”
Political candidates are notorious for this kind of ambiguous behavior when asked if they would run for president.
They play coy specifically because they like to tease the idea to see if people respond to it. Another reason they play coy is possibly because nobody wants to be the first person to declare their candidacy.
A lot of times it’s about timing and momentum; if you declare too early then you could burn out faster. Timing is everything in these situations.
But we’ve heard this kind of rhetoric before when they say “I’ll stay quiet for now.” Don’t buy it. They are seriously considering it but they’re playing the field first.
The Girl, Interrupted actress is also estranged from her devoutly conservative father, Jon Voight, who recently posted a video on his Twitter account on Christmas pledging his unwavering support for President Trump.
One thing is for sure, though, Jolie would run as a Democrat.
As for the “skeletons” in her closet, there was that moment on the Oscar’s red carpet in 2000 she shared a really affectionate kiss on the lips with her biological brother that sparked many incest rumors.
Also, she is estranged from her father because of his politics. Those two things may not mean much to some liberals but it may be enough for moderates to sway the other way.
