Saturday Night Live has become a wasteland of stale jokes.
The show doesn’t do much beyond poking fun at Donald Trump and other Republicans.
But something happened on a recent episode that caught people off-guard.
The left is currently rejoicing over proven liar Michael Cohen pleading guilty to telling another lie to Robert Mueller and his band of 17 frothing Democrats.
Mueller’s interminable investigation into Russian collusion has turned up nothing but crimes of process committed after he was appointed.
But that hasn’t stopped the left from celebrating.
The mood of the left always trickles down into culture, namely Hollywood.
After Donald Trump won the election, the cast of SNL offered mournful words of support to the audience at the end of the show, as if the country just descended into martial law.
Whenever Republicans point to media bias and Democrats write it off as conspiracy theorizing, moments like that are a stark reminder of the truth.
SNL hasn’t even pretended to hide their leftist slant in the era of Trump.
Alec Baldwin rekindled his career by portraying Trump on the sketch show.
Kavanaugh was fighting for his livelihood and reputation, and the left mocked him as an angry boor.
In a particularly low moment for the show, cast member Pete Davidson made fun of Republican congressman Dan Crenshaw, who lost his eye in combat as a Navy SEAL.
Davidson offered up an excellent mea culpa in a follow-up episode with Crenshaw, but Davidson’s initial joke speaks to the left’s comfort level with saying the nastiest things imaginable about Republicans.
But something rare happened on a recent episode of SNL.
They actually made fun of leftists on the show.
In a send-up of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” the sketch lampooned co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski and how their real-life marriage bleeds into the show.
Scarborough is the only type of conservative MSNBC likes—an expat from the GOP whose views are almost indistinguishable from Democrats these days.
The sketch also mocked Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s sophomoric approach to politics.

The sketch was tepid compared to the outright nastiness aimed at conservatives on a weekly basis, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.
There’s plenty of comedic gold to be mined on the left.
The problem is the writers and performers view themselves as activists, so their comedy is doomed to be limited.
If leftists in Hollywood weren’t so heavy-handed with their politics, they would realize half the country is starving for content that doesn’t portray them as soulless yokels all the time.
But the left would rather lose money and wear their bleeding hearts on their sleeve.
Maybe the Pete Davidson/Dan Crenshaw olive branch episode and the recent Morning Joe sketch is a sign SNL is willing to self-reflect and poke fun at the left occasionally.
But nobody on the right should hold their breath.
