Democrats have been screaming for Donald Trump to be impeached for months despite zero evidence of illegality or egregious misconduct.
When the Trump hysteria dies down, Democrats will actually have to roll up their sleeves and run somebody against him in 2020.
But there’s just one problem.
The Democrats have an incredibly weak bench.
A recent poll showed that voters are unfamiliar with most of the people the Democrats are considering running.
From Breitbart:
There is a minefield of potential 2020 election candidates in the Democratic Party waiting to challenge President Trump, but most voters have not heard of many of them, according to a new poll.
The Politico/Morning Consult poll asked 1,990 registered voters their views on 19 potential Democratic challengers to Trump’s presidency.
The list of potential candidates identified in the survey includes eight senators, five governors, a mayor of a large city, a congressman, two CEOs, a former vice president, and a failed Senate candidate. Of those mentioned in the survey, half of the respondents did not know most of the candidates.
“All bets are off when it comes to the composition of the 2020 Democratic primary,” said Morning Consult Co-founder and Chief Research Officer Kyle Dropp. “This early polling indicates that many of the names being floated in Washington still have a lot of work to do in terms of building national profiles.”
Most survey respondents were able to identify and have opinions on former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, (D-MA) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Three-fourths of the voters surveyed said they knew enough about Biden and Warren to have formed opinions about the candidates. Sanders was not included in the survey.
So the Democrats’ thoroughbreds are the dull-as-a-post Biden, and leftist loons Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders; plus, both Biden and Sanders will be pushing 80 years old in 2020.
Those aren’t exactly figures that inspire the way Barack Obama and Bill Clinton were able to.
The article continues:
According to Morning Consult, Biden was the most popular candidate of the list of potential 2020 Democratic candidates, with 74 percent of respondents having a positive view of the former vice president. Warren came in second, with 51 percent of respondents viewing her favorably.
The number of those rumored to be potential Democratic candidates for the 2020 election pales in comparison to the list of people who have filed to run for president so far- 129 people have filed to run for the presidency in 2020.
Democrats might take solace in the fact that young voters turned out in big numbers for Bernie Sanders, and there would be no Clinton machine to sabotage him in the primary–at least one would think; Clinton has branded herself leader of the #Resistance.
However, some Bernie voters might get siphoned off as they get hit in the face with economic reality. This is a common occurrence, and the Democrats may not be able to rely on the usual surge of new young voters.
From the Daily Caller:
On Deck, “Generation Z,” the most conservative generation in 70 years. Born between 1995 -2010, they’re fiscally conservative, staunchly supportive of personal freedoms, and strong on national security including counter-terrorism and cyber-security, with a hint of isolationism. They don’t fit the mold for either political party in their current form, which is probably why data suggests they support the unconventional Donald Trump over the political status quo offered by either party.
A weak political bench and an influx of new conservatives could put the Democrats in a precarious situation in 2020.
