The left-wing rhetoric at the Winter Olympics has been a dream for the mainstream media.
They’ve fawned over the propaganda minister of a brutal regime while lauding athletes for bashing Donald Trump and Mike Pence.
But not everybody is jumping on the left-wing propaganda train, and the ratings bear that out.
The ratings for the South Korea games are down across the board from the 2014 games in Sochi, and down dramatically from the numbers for the 2010 games in Vancouver.
From Breitbart:
Ratings for NBC’s broadcast of the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, are down, with seven percent fewer viewers than the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
The bad ratings news comes despite the last few nights, which saw an uptick in viewers, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
A three-day stint during last week’s broadcasts brought roughly a 13.0 rating and Monday’s earned the network a 12.6 rating.
While this was a better showing than the previous week of broadcasts, it hasn’t been enough to approach the ratings seen in 2014.
“Though Sunday, Feb. 18, Pyeongchang averaged a total 21.3 primetime viewers with all NBC vehicles tallied,” Hollywood Reporter noted. “Compared with the Sochi Winter Games, which aired in 2014, Pyeongchang’s loss stands at 7 percent. If you look just at the linear tune-in on the broadcast network, losses more than double. NBC-only viewership is down by 16 percent.”
The opening days of the Olympics were beset with low ratings losing to the 2014 Sochi games. But even worse, this year’s games were down a whopping 32 percent over the 2010 games held in Vancouver, Canada.
More and more people are tired of being told how to think. Most Americans simply want to watch the pinnacle of athletic achievement, not a civics lesson from an uninformed Olympian with a clear bias.
The doting over Kim Jong-Un’s sister was particularly appalling. The media failed to mention—or worse, realize—that North Korea’s “charm offensive” was being orchestrated at the barrel of a gun.
North Korean cheerleaders faced harsh punishments for not cheering hard enough. Even the athletic competitors could receive severe repercussions for not medaling.
Sadly, there’s precedent at multiple international sporting events.
From The Sun:
Having failed to land a single medal in South Korea so far, its Winter Olympic team could suffer the same fate as previous underperforming athletes – imprisonment in one of the country’s sick gulags.
The most infamous case is that of the North Korean football team which made history for reaching the second round of the 1966 World Cup.
Former leader Kim Il-Sung is widely believed to have ordered them to be arrested after they lost to 5-3 Portugal days after they were seen drinking with local women in public.
Instead of going home to a proud welcome, they are reported to have been sent to one of the reclusive nation’s most notorious gulags.
North Korean defector Kang Chol-Hwan claims he met some of the team while they were being held in Yodok prison, or Camp 15, usually reserved for political prisoners.
In his tell-all book The Aquariums of Pyongyang, he asserts that footballer Pak Seung-Zin became infamous for his ability to endure torture.
Another inmate, dubbed “The Cockroach” after gobbling any insects he could find to fight off hunger pains, would often be thrown into a solitary chamber known as the “Sweatbox”.
While they are the best known case of the country’s harsh attitude towards “failure”, they are far from the only ones.
This is the regime the media fawns over while lecturing Mike Pence about being a bad Christian.
It’s no wonder Americans are tuning out.
