The 2018 NFL Draft was a wild night. It featured four NFL quarterback prospects; Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen and Josh Rosen who all went in the top ten.
And all of the sports analysts were divided over which of them would go first overall to the Cleveland, Browns. The last person anybody expected to be taken first of the four was Baker Mayfield – who shined in the Browns offense last year.
You should watch how Cleveland Browns star quarterback Baker Mayfield ignored coaches to do this incredible thing for the Troops at camp.
Many sports analysts thought Baker Mayfield would be somewhat of a bust in the NFL because he’s undersized in both his height and his hands. It’s only been one season thus far but he’s without a doubt a beacon of hope for a franchise that has been disastrous for decades.
In February 2017, Mayfield was arrested in Arkansas on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and fleeing and resisting arrest. A person reportedly flagged a police officer down during a heated argument with Mayfield.
The preliminary police report described Mayfield as unable to walk straight, having slurred speech and food covering the front of his shirt. When he was asked to stay so the police could get a statement, Mayfield began shouting obscenities and “causing a scene.”
Seven months later during a chippy game with Kansas University, the Oklahoma quarterback grabbed his crotch and appeared to curse at the opposing team’s players from the sideline.
Many wrote him off after that. Would he make it to the NFL? Sure. But many thought he would be Johnny Manziel 2.0. But none of that matters because the Browns did take him first overall.
What if I told you that although he’s got a problem with authority; Mayfield does it at the right time nowadays.
Coaches called Mayfield off the field on Tuesday when a planned autograph session was supposed to be over. Instead, the second-year quarterback ignored his coaches to stay and sign autographs, take pictures with every military member in attendance.
Sports journalist Hayden Grove (who covers the Browns) wrote, “Baker Mayfield was called off the field by the team when autographs were supposed to be over. He refused and signed and took selfies with every soldier remaining on the field.”
So many were over the moon about Mayfield’s defiance against authority in this particular situation.

One Twitter user wrote, “Dude just gets it. He has the city in the palm of his hand. If it carries over to the field like many expect (hope), Watch out!”
Another simply wrote, “How do you not like this dude?”
