If you don’t think the NFL is a ridiculous raging dumpster fire then you have been living under a rock for the last three years.
Under Commissioner Roger Goodell, the NFL dropped the ball on issues of players’ substance abuse, CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) and unpatriotic un-American anthem kneelers more times than the worst fumbling running back in the league.
And now some team owners want to replace the commissioner with someone you’d never expect.
The NFL is like a nagging thorn in your back that neither one of your hands can seem to reach. It’s a headache.
That makes the NFL and its executives weak in every possible way.
And that also explains why some NFL team owners have floated the idea of replacing Goodell with the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and some are speculating that one of them is none other than Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones.
It’s no secret that although the NBA has a bigger worldwide presence, the NFL reigns supreme as the favorite in American sports.
Goodell’s tenure as commissioner has been riddled with nightmarish public relations incidents that range from cheating scandals to under-punishing players for domestic violence.
But the NBA does not have that problem because Adam Silver is as liberal as they get when it comes to letting players run amuck with zero consequences for their actions.
Do you remember what happened after Trayvon Martin’s death in Florida? The Miami Heat players – at that time included Lebron James and Dwayne Wade – protested by wearing black hoodies during warm-ups.
The point is, NFL owners may be looking to buy themselves good headlines from the left-wing sports media by bringing in Silver to run their league.
Silver adopts every trendy social justice warrior cause from promoting homosexual athletes, to black lives matter to cheering NBA players that boycott visiting President Trump at the White House.
NFL owners just folded the Colin Kaepernick’s anti-American protest and now want some good headlines.
But like many corporate entities, they believe the easiest way to shut up their left-wing critics is to buy them off.
And in this case, that means bringing on board one of the most high-profile liberals in sports.
And apparently NFL team owners approached Silver many times since he became the NBA’s commissioner.
ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne tweeted, “Five years ago Adam Silver debuted as NBA commissioner. Since then he’s been approached by NFL owners several times about running football. He said no.”
Money wasn’t enough to lure him away from the NBA.
Goodell signed a five-year $200 million deal in December 2017, which calculates to $40 million per year.
Silver only makes a reported $10 million per year.
But Silver might have better foresight of the direction both leagues are going. The NFL has declining viewership and terrible stadium attendance as a result of the gross negligence from its leadership, while the NBA is headed in the opposite direction, albeit embracing its success through liberalism.
According to Forbes, the valuation for NBA franchises has doubled since Silver took over, which will likely mean there is a huge raise for him in the immediate future.
