Entertainment has been infused with “wokeness.”
Television shows are simply promoting the Democrat Party at this point.
Now one Hollywood actress made an absurd comment about one anti-police protest.
Hollywood films and television shows are routinely promulgating Democrat talking points, but now performers are refusing roles because of “wokeness.”
Scarlett Johansson was bullied out of a role as a transgender man because the radical activists wouldn’t accept anyone who was not trans in real life.
The movie fell apart as a result.
Some voice actors have resigned their jobs if they were playing animated characters of a different race.
Now television actress Jasika Nicole wrote an op-ed in Entertainment Weekly about why she will no longer play roles on cop shows that don’t portray the police as the bad guys.
Nicole wrote:
“Last year, I prepared an audition for a television remake of a popular ‘90s film in which I was being seen for the role of a police officer. The character was smart, charismatic, and unafraid — a dream role for lots of women like me in Hollywood. But something about this character felt uncomfortable in a way that was new for me, it felt… false. I realized it was because the premise of the show wasn’t focused on the complicated ways that police officers abuse their power or how unconscious anti-Black bias flavors the way that Black neighborhoods are policed by mostly white police forces. Instead, it was just a story about one cop. One ‘good’ cop. One cop who was intentionally being cast as a person of color.”
According to many Democrats, cop shows shouldn’t be on the air, but if they air, the cops must always be the villains.
That does not comport with reality at all.
The data on police shootings are completely out of step with the “killer cop” rhetoric pushed by Nicole and other leftists.
A recent study showed that a majority of liberals believed that over 1,000 unarmed black men are killed by the police every year; the real number is around 15.
And the “defund the police” nonsense puts lives at risk, especially black lives.
The “Ferguson Effect,” i.e. cops pulling back from neighborhoods because of cultural demonization, has led to an uptick in violent crime.
A 2020 Gallup poll showed that 81% of black respondents wanted the same level or more policing in their communities.
Meanwhile, leftists never explain how getting rid of the cops is supposed to make people safer.
Nicole probably isn’t alone in her cop show boycott; other actors have turned down roles for ideological reasons.
For example, Unplanned, a biopic about Planned Parenthood employee Abby Johnson who became a pro-life activist, was barely able to cast the lead role.
Actresses were told by their managers that their careers would be destroyed if they took the role.
Americans enjoy police shows, so this anti-police hysteria won’t sit well with most viewers.
