Radical leftism is sweeping across America.
Institutions like sports are no longer safe from politics.
But a football legend who supported Donald Trump fought the woke mob with one statement.
The hard Left is on the march, but more and more people are beginning to get sick of their woke nonsense and authoritarian streak.
And former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz, who won a national championship at the school in 1988, is standing up to the cancel mob.
Holtz, who supported Trump during the 2020 election and was awarded the Medal of Freedom, is calling out activists who deemed Notre Dame’s nickname—the Fighting Irish—offensive.
From Breitbart:
“Championship-winning Ex-Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz blasted a recent survey that claimed that the school’s Fighting Irish leprechaun mascot is somehow offensive. On Wednesday, news emerged that a group that follows school mascots had deemed the Notre Dame leprechaun mascot as the fourth most offensive mascot in the country. But the 1988 champion coach was aghast at the claim that the school’s long-time symbol was offensive.”
Several mascots have been changed over the past few years due to cries from leftists obsessed with political correctness.
The Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians are the two biggest, but many college teams have scrapped “offensive” mascots and nicknames.
For example, Valparaiso University changed its nickname from Crusaders to Beacons because it’s inappropriate to remind people of the Crusades.
Holtz appeared on Fox News to express his frustration about the Fighting Irish nonsense.
Holtz said:
“[W]hy does everybody have to say what you want to do? There’s a lot of things I don’t like that I tolerate. That’s part of life. That’s part of the United States. It’s part of the freedom of speech…But people, they get offended and try to bully and try to shut ya up…I think it’s time for the silent majority to stand up and say no more. This is what we believe, and this is what is going to go on. This is our country, and this is the way it was founded.”
Many Americans share Holtz’s sentiment.
They’re sick and tired of the radical Left erasing history and culture in pursuit of utopia.
Holtz continued:
“Let’s understand where the Fighting Irish name came from…It came from a newspaper article in the ‘20s. The Ku Klux Klan invaded South Bend. The students from Notre Dame, which at that time were all male, went down and confronted them and there was a melee that followed. The headline in the paper read ‘Fighting Irish’ and that’s where it really started.”
The Left often demeans what it doesn’t fully understand.
During the riots of 2020, Antifa terrorists tore down many statues, including one of an abolitionist.
Holtz concluded:
“People don’t like the flag. They don’t like the Pledge of Allegiance. Everything in this world they don’t like – the Redskins. Good Lord knows…Let’s have the ability to stand up. I used to think the First Amendment said I have the freedom of speech to say what I want and say what I feel. But let’s not be intimidated any longer. It’s time the silent majority stood up.”
The woke mob has pushed people too far.
It’s time for Americans to start fighting back before it’s too late.
