Will Smith disgraced himself at the Academy Awards.
Some people are shockingly defending what he did.
But Joe Rogan torched Smith’s actions with these six words.
Will Smith made Oscar history for all the wrong reasons.
Few will remember the Academy Awards ceremony for Smith winning the Oscar for Best Actor, or anyone else winning any award.
Smith’s stunning slap of comedian Chris Rock is the only thing people will remember.
The superstar actor lost his cool when Rock made a benign joke about Smith’s wife, fellow performer Jada Pinkett Smith.
Some people have defended Smith for ridiculous reasons, but comedian and podcaster Joe Rogan is not one of them.
During a recent podcast episode, Rogan stuck up for his colleague and said that “Chris Rock’s doing his f*cking job.”
Comedians get paid to tell jokes and rib people sitting in the front rows of the Oscars.
Rock was simply doing what he was paid to do, and he made a mild joke at the expense of Jada Pinkett Smith.
Some have tried to argue that her having alopecia justified her husband’s actions, but that’s insane.
Rogan added, “I think he [Smith] was being emotionally fragile and he acted on impulse…And I think it’s a foolish impulse that you do when you know there’s no consequences. So you’re hitting a small person…You don’t go and sit in the front row, you’re a star at the Oscars. There’s a professional comedian whose job is to roast people. And what he [Rock] did is not even insult him.”
As Rogan points out, Smith’s ego probably was damaged because he initially laughed at the joke.
It was only when he saw his wife’s reaction that he sprung into action.
Rogan continued, “It was like he was getting away with it like he was living in a fictional movie…Like the idea that you think it’s smart while wearing a tuxedo to walk onto a stage in front of the world…and smack a comedian for the most mild joke and then sit there quivering saying ‘keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth.’”
Rogan isn’t the only celebrity to condemn what Smith did.
Comedians have almost universally rallied around Rock because they understand the implications of someone who takes offense to a joke storming the stage.
Jim Carrey said in an interview, “I was sickened…I was sickened by the standing ovation [when Smith later won the Oscar for Best Actor]. I felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse. It really felt like, ‘Oh, this is a really clear indication that we’re not the cool club anymore.’”
Carrey said that Smith should have been “arrested” and he would have sued him.
Carrey explained, “I’d have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200 million because that video is going to be there forever. It’s going to be ubiquitous…That insult is going to last a very long time.”
Smith permanently destroyed his reputation even among Hollywood elites.
