Loretta Lynch The NFL has backed itself into a corner.
The league tried to bend the knee to the “woke” mob, and it backfired.
Now the NFL shockingly hired Loretta Lynch to defend it against one insane lawsuit.
Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores is suing the NFL for discrimination.
Flores, who is black, believes he did not get a fair shake in interviews with a handful of NFL teams, including the New York Giants and Denver Broncos.
The teams fiercely deny Flores’s allegations, and now the NFL has hired former Attorney General Loretta Lynch to represent the league against Flores.
From Bloomberg:
“The National Football League has hired former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to defend it in a high-profile race discrimination case filed earlier this month by former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores. Lynch, a partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, is working with the law firm’s chairman Brad Karp on the litigation, according to four sources familiar with the situation.”
Considering Lynch worked under Barak Obama—who often used racially divisive rhetoric—Lynch seems like a peculiar hire for the NFL.
Some on the left have blasted the NFL for hiring lynch; a USA Today opinion piece called the hire an “insidious PR move.”
Others have argued that the NFL hiring Lynch is tantamount to letting the fox in the hen house.
The NFL has been down this road before.
Commissioner Roger Goodell consulted with former White House press secretary and Clintonite Joe Lockhart regarding Colin Kaepernick’s anti-American anthem protest.
Goodell ultimately decided to cave to Kaepernick and give the players whatever they wanted.
The NFL essentially made itself a target, and now Flores is taking his shot.
In the midst of the media storm, Flores was hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers as a defensive assistant, which takes some of the bite out of his lawsuit.
However, Flores is continuing his litigation against the NFL.
From ESPN:
“The Steelers ensured that Flores will be on an NFL staff while he has litigation pending against the league, though he’s overqualified to be the Steelers’ senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach. Not only has Flores been a head coach and guided the Dolphins to an 8-1 finish after a 1-7 start, he also coached the Patriots’ linebackers for three seasons and called plays in New England’s Super Bowl LIII win.”
ESPN is clearly pushing a narrative by pointing out that Flores is “overqualified.”
Fired coaches routinely take a demotion to continue working.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said of Flores:
“I am excited about Brian Flores joining our coaching staff given his history of developing and teaching defensive players during his time in the NFL…Brian’s résumé speaks for itself, and I look forward to him adding his expertise to help our team.”
With Lynch working for the NFL, it will be interesting to see how the league handles Flores’s lawsuit.
His case isn’t helped by the fact that the Miami Dolphins and the Houston Texans both hired black coaches this offseason cycle.
