The United States women’s national team just defeated France in the round of sixteen to advance them in the World Cup to play against England in the next round. And it looks like they’re the most unstoppable team in the tournament right now – their plus/minus differential is through the roof.
You could probably make the case for several MVPs on the U.S. women’s team thus far that includes Alex Morgan, goalie Alyssa Naeher who has only given up two goals in this entire tournament or possibly captain Megan Rapinoe who has scored America’s last four goals in a row.
And the U.S. soccer captain Megan Rapinoe will do this one thing instead of attending the White House when the tournament is over.
Megan Rapinoe may be slaying it on the field scoring the last four of the United States women’s national team’s goals in a row, but off the field she’s created quite a controversial stir.
When asked if she would visit the White House if her team wins the gold medal she said, “I am not going to fake it. hobnob with the president, who is clearly against so many of the things that I am [for] and so many of the things that I actually am. I have no interest in extending our platform to him.”
But that didn’t come close to her crassness when she said, “I’m not going to the f—king White House.”
While President Trump circles the globe on behalf of Americans – creating peace amongst nations and wheeling and dealing in trade tariffs, our commander in chief had the time to respond to Rapinoe’s comments.
He wrote, “I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job! I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose. Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”
Rapinoe remains steadfast that she will not go to Trump’s White House and doubled down on her original comments saying she “stands by the comments that I made about not wanting to go to the White House.”
And that’s when freshman Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez decided to interject herself into the conversation (as she always does).
The Democrat from New York City responded to an ESPN tweet saying, “It may not be the White House, but we’d be happy to welcome @mPinoe & the entire #USWMNT for a tour of the House of Representatives anytime they’d like.”
Rapinoe responded, “Consider it done.”
It’s unclear whether the entire team will go with Rapinoe but that’s what it suggests.
Trump doesn’t deserve this kind of disdain and even took the high road in this situation inviting the team whether they win or lose.
He wrote, “We haven’t yet invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose.”
This is nothing new for Trump. Since he took office, approximately half the teams attend the White House after winning their respective championships while the others refuse to go.
That’s also not counting certain individual players on these teams who declared they wouldn’t attend because of Trump despite the rest of the team going out of respect for the office.
