The Boston Red Sox are the 2018 World Series champions.
The team decided to attend the customary visit to the White House after speculation that they might skip it.
But the team’s manager could use the opportunity to make a political statement.
The Boston Red Sox finished the regular season with the best record in baseball, and completed their mission by winning the title.
The dreaded “Curse of the Bambino” was the catalyst for the team’s 86-year World Series victory drought.
But the team broke the curse, and has now won four champions since 2004.
However, the cap on the 2018 team could be bittersweet.
The Red Sox will visit the White House to commemorate their season, but the event could be adversarial.
Team manager Alex Cora is no fan of Donald Trump.
Cora, who’s Puerto Rican, criticized Trump for his handling of Hurricane Maria, which devastated Cora’s homeland.
Cora bought into the biased mainstream media narrative that Trump didn’t do enough.
The media even tried to brand Maria as Trump’s “Katrina” moment.
Cora said to NESN, “I’m gonna use my platform the right way. I’m not gonna embarrass anybody.”
What “the right way” means is anyone’s guess.
One would imagine the right way is to be gracious in victory and respect the moment.
But there’s so much pressure from the “woke” left to be hostile toward Republicans.
Hillary Clinton, Cory Booker, Maxine Waters, and Eric Holder are all prominent Democrats who have recently said Democrats need to be uncivil to their political opponents.
Cora continued, “Actually, I’m gonna represent 4 million people from back home the right way when we go there.”
For anyone hoping to see the event proceed without incident, that quote has to make him or her feel uneasy.
If Cora made some type of political statement, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.
The Red Sox ownership team is liberal, as is the city of Boston.
Recently the organization honored the 2004 World Series team, but two of the most integral members of the team—Curt Schilling and Johnny Damon—were excluded from the event.
It’s no coincidence that Schilling and Damon are both vocal Trump supporters.
It would be a shame if the White House event were spoiled by partisan politics.
The left likes to blast Trump for dividing the nation, but it’s the left doing everything in its power to tear down institutions.
Sports used to be non-partisan escapism for all Americans.
But the left politicizes everything it touches.
There was a minor media-manufactured controversy last year when the World Series-winning Houston Astros visited the White House.
During the ceremony, a photographer caught team MVP Jose Altuve with a stoic look on his face.
He said he was simply showing respect to the president by paying attention to what he was saying.
The left-wing media are the ones sowing division, even when there’s no controversy present.
Whatever Cora decides to do, the left is eagerly waiting to twist it into a firestorm.
