Amazon just released a television series set in New York 1977 called “Hunters,” starring Al Pacino – about a secret group that kills high-ranking Nazis who work towards creating a Fourth Reich where they implement race and class cleansing. Sound familiar?
Speaking of which, there have been a lot of Nazi and white supremacy movies or television series coming out over the last several years, right? It’s almost as if Hollywood is trying to shove a very specific agenda down our throats about the President Trump-era, don’t you think?
And this “woke” NBA legend used Amazon’s “Hunters’ to say Trump has the same kind of “Nazi” behavior as depicted on that show.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is arguably considered the greatest basketball player of all time and inarguably at least in the top five.
The Los Angeles Laker and Milwaukee Bucks legend played 20 seasons in the NBA and still holds the record for the most career points, the most NBA Most Valuable Player awards (6) and the most All-Star appearances (19). Of course, calling someone the greatest is subjective. Most people will say Michael Jordan, but he revolutionized the game with his un-guardable skyhook.
Now, Abdul-Jabbar is a “woke” retired NBA legend.
You already know he converted to Islam in the summer of 1968 when he also boycotted the Summer Olympics, but now he frequently writes aggressively liberal op-eds for publications like the Hollywood Reporter.
To give you an example of his “woke” takes, he once wrote an article entitled, “Don’t Be Fooled, ‘Roseanne’ Is Really TV’s Most Anti-Trump Show,” during the height of the comeback season a couple years ago and before Roseanne Barr was fired from the network. https://offthewire.com/roseanne-barr-just-announced-a-huge-comeback-and-hollywood-will-undoubtedly-be-furious/
In it, Abdul-Jabbar claims, “Roseanne is more subversive in its presentation of class struggles, health care, gender identity, and other issues that reflect the failures of the Trump administration.” No, that’s incorrect. The entire point of the show is how we all struggle and blaming the federal government for our familial problems and social status is unproductive. https://offthewire.com/roseanne-reveals-true-reason-she-was-fired/
And on March 18th, Abdul-Jabbar wrote another “hot take” entitled, “Trump’s Coronavirus Reaction Reminds of ‘Hunters’ Nazi Conspiracy.”
Abdul-Jabbar elaborates in his hit piece saying, “[Trump has a] “blame-the-black-guy rhetoric,” claiming that the president is just like a “gleefully unrepentant Nazi,” while insisting that Trump’s “racist failures and lack of leadership will be his legacy.”
One of the boldest opinions Abdul-Jabbar makes is; “Because for almost two months, Trump, like a sneering Bond supervillain, allowed the virus to spread knowing that poor communities and people of color would pay the greatest cost, economically and health-wise. It wasn’t until it started affecting the Mar-a-Lago crowd and their businesses (and, therefore, his re-election chances) that the president started to take it seriously.”
This rhetoric is incredibly dangerous and toxic. Former pop star and Academy Award winner, Cher, recently called Trump a “murderer” in a since-deleted tweet.
While it’s true that Palm Beach is now considered a hot zone of coronavirus cases, that was as of only a few days ago, and to infer the president only implemented a national emergency solely because one of his many private resorts could potentially be infected is a false correlation. He was elected to be the President of the United States and that includes all Americans.
So far, Trump has done an excellent job with his coronavirus response.
Abdul-Jabbar concludes, “The Nazis in Hunters are powerful people in business and government, devoted to protecting only those they deem worthwhile humans. The government’s early response to coronavirus was not a Nazi conspiracy, but it was “Nazi-adjacent,” meaning that the same attitudes regarding race and class were being employed in determining who’s worthy of government protection.”
“Nazi-adjacent” is a ridiculous assertion even for somebody who is “woke.” Maybe somebody should inform Abdul-Jabbar that African American unemployment has been at an all-time low under President Trump’s administration, and not former President Barack Obama’s.
