The View has become notorious for its mind-numbing takes on politics and culture.
And Whoopi Goldberg could arguably be the worst co-host of them all.
Now Goldberg doubled down on one ridiculous comment that got her in hot water.
It takes something quite absurd for a co-host of The View to get suspended by the network, but Whoopi Goldberg pulled off that impressive feat.
While discussing the Holocaust, Goldberg made the shocking claim that it was not about race.
Goldberg said, “It’s not about race…It’s about man’s inhumanity to man. That’s what it’s about.”
She later added that the Holocaust was between “two white groups of people.”
Goldberg was given the opportunity to clean up her comments on Stephen Colbert’s late night show, but reiterated them.
After that ABC president Kim Godwin suspended her for two weeks and wrote in a statement, “While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments…The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”
However, Goldberg does not at all seem contrite because she doubled down in a recent interview.
UK Sunday Times journalist Janice Turner wrote, “I say, is Nazis saw Jews as a race. ‘Yes, but that’s the killer, isn’t it?’ says Goldberg. ‘The oppressor is telling you what you are. Why are you believing them? They’re Nazis. Why believe what they’re saying?’
But since the Nazis devised racial laws aimed specifically at Jews, wasn’t the Holocaust about race? ‘It wasn’t originally,’ insists Goldberg. ‘Remember who they were killing first. They were not killing racial; they were killing physical. They were killing people they considered to be mentally defective. And then they made this decision.’”
Turner continued to push back on Goldberg’s comments, and she dug the hole even deeper.
Turner wrote, “Then she ponders if, when a Jew loses their faith, they are still part of the Jewish race. But race, I say, can be more than skin colour, can’t it? ‘Well, it’s not in its official…when you look it up.’
But the Nazis measured the heads and noses of Jews to ‘prove’ they were a distinct race. ‘They did that to black people too. But it doesn’t change the fact that you could not tell a Jew on a street. You could find me. You couldn’t find them. That was the point I was making. But you would have thought that I’d taken a big old stinky dump on the table, butt naked.’”
It appears as though Goldberg has done no reading on the subject, and does not believe she said anything wrong.
ABC suspended her for two weeks, but wouldn’t dare do it again.
Goldberg will continue to say outlandish things without any repercussions.
For instance, Goldberg said that director Roman Polanski’s sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl “was not rape, rape.”
When liberals in good standing make nonsensical statements, there is almost never any blowback from the corporate press.
