The NFL is at war with Donald Trump.
The league dragged its feet on the anti-American anthem protest issue, and watched millions of viewers tune out as Trump correctly ripped the NFL for not taking action.
In light of the league’s new anthem policy, one team in particular is taking out its frustration on the President, but Trump made a move the team didn’t see coming.
For decades it has become customary for championship sports teams to visit the President at the White House. Sports is supposed to be one of the cultural touchstones that bind all Americans.
However, the left has constantly made a push to politicize more and more sectors of American life. Visiting—or not visiting—has turned into a political statement.
The liberal media bashed Boston Bruins’ goalie Tim Thomas for skipping the ceremonial meeting with then-president Barack Obama after his team won the Stanley Cup.
Thomas was taken to task for sharing his concern about Obama’s reckless expansion and use of executive power.
Now that Trump is in office, the same press views eschewing the White House visit as a sign of social consciousness and “wokeness.”
The Super Bowl LII champion Philadelphia Eagles attempted to show up President Trump by sending only a handful of players to the White House from a roster of several dozen.
The abstaining players’ misguided anger stems from the NFL’s new anthem policy that allows them to stay in the locker room during the Star-Spangled Banner, but requires them to stand if they opt to come out onto the field.
The move was a clear stunt by anti-national anthem players on the Eagles to embarrass the President over Trump’s support for the military and American flag.
Trump sensed that the anti-American players on the Eagles were attempting to show him up by only sending two or three players to White House; Trump called their bluff and canceled the event entirely.
The players’ backlash to the new anthem policy—and subsequently to Trump for his approval of it—shows a complete lack of awareness.
The new policy is less stringent than the NBA guidelines that don’t even allow players to remain in the locker room.
Besides, NFL players can still protest if they’re willing to incur a fine levied against their organization; nobody said protesting wouldn’t come with consequences.
The Eagles appear to have succumbed to Trump Derangement Syndrome. One of the many symptoms of this pathology that has afflicted liberals since November 2016 is that it forces them to take the opposite position of Trump, no matter how untenable.
For example, TDS causes liberals to defend the violent international gang MS-13. Nancy Pelosi went so far as to talk about the “spark of divinity” in their eyes…in between the heinous executions and rapes they commit.
In the case of the Eagles, TDS caused them to lash out at Trump because he was in favor of the benign anthem policy revision.
The Eagles refusal to attend the White House ceremony demonstrated liberals are hardening the battle lines over turning sports into the latest front in the never ending culture wars.
Over 1,000 Eagle fans had been invited to attend the White House ceremony and celebrate their team’s championships.
But Eagles players decided they hate the President more than they love their fans.
So they snubbed the President because Trump stood with patriotic Americans against their anti-military and anti-flag protests.
Liberal activists have turned what was a light hearted American tradition – a championship team visiting the White House – into political combat.
