Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are off to a bad start.
And the schedule does not get much easier.
Now Brady made one shocking announcement that threw his season into chaos.
Over the summer, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL.
After 22 seasons and seven Super Bowl rings, it seemed like it was time.
But Brady made another shocking announcement; he was coming back for another season.
Brady said that he wanted to play until he was 45, and his 45th birthday is right around the corner.
However, Brady’s hasty un-retirement didn’t sit well with supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen.
For years, Bundchen was anxious for Brady to hang up his cleats and spend more time with the family.
Brady’s itch to play another season caused a serious rift in his marriage, and Brady made yet another shocking announcement.
He and Gisele are calling it quits.
Brady wrote on Instagram, “In recent days, my wife and I finalized our divorce from one another after 13 years of marriage. We arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. We are blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way. We will continue to work together as parents to always ensure they receive the love and attention they deserve.”
Many speculated that things were rocky when Gisele moved out, and Brady mysteriously went missing for a week in the middle of training camp.
Brady continued, “We arrived at this decision to end our marriage after much consideration. Doing so is, of course, painful and difficult, like it is for many people who go through the same thing every day around the world. However we wish only the best for each other as we pursue whatever new chapters in our lives that are yet to be written. And we kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate what is to come in the days and weeks ahead. Thank you.”
Many questioned Brady’s decision to come back for another year and jeopardize his marriage.
Brady is already considered the greatest quarterback of all time, he has virtually all of the meaningful records, and he has seven Super Bowl rings.
He also won a ring without New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, which must’ve felt like vindication for him.
But now Brady is back for season 23, and the Buccaneers are not very good.
The team currently sits at 3-5 with four playoff teams from last year still on the schedule.
Brady’s urge to come back for one more year might’ve cost him his marriage, and unless the team gets things turned around, it would’ve been for a mediocre season.
When asked if the marital issues were taking a toll on Brady, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said, “I can’t say for sure. Tom’s a very private person. He does his job when he’s out here. And he smiles a lot…That’s really all you can go by. I think everybody — no matter what profession — you go through some things. It’s how you handle it and come out of it. I’m sure he has something weighing on him when he leaves work and everything. I don’t know how much. I guess that’s a question for him.”
Brady is probably pondering a lot of questions at this moment.
