Tim Tebow had a rocky career in the NFL.
His Christian faith rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.
And Tebow refused to call one play in the NFL for a surprising reason.
Tim Tebow is still pushing forward with his dream of playing Major League Baseball.
After showing improvement in his first few seasons in the New York Mets’ farm system, Tebow hasn’t been able to get a late-season call-up to the majors.
At 33 years of age, Tebow’s dream of playing in the MLB could end quickly, as did his NFL career.
However, Tebow left an impression in his short time in the league.
The former Heisman trophy winner led the Denver Broncos on an improbable run into the playoffs that culminated in an upset win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Tebow was traded to the New York Jets in the offseason, and his career quickly stalled.
But he had one memorable moment with the Jets where he refused to make one play-call.
Former all-pro teammate center Nick Mangold recounted the story in a podcast interview.
Mangold said:
“We had a play that was a ‘Y Oh Sh*t’ screen, where the tight end actually fakes like he fell down on a running play, hops up, runs back over, throws back to the tight end and it’s usually wide open…He goes through the whole formation and gets to the last play: ‘Y, Alright Screen’…you guys know what it is.’”
Tebow didn’t call the play because of the curse word in it.
Mangold and other teammates egged him on, but he didn’t take the bait.
Mangold continued, “And we’re like, ‘No Tim, what is it?’…Then he goes, ‘No, I’m not going to say it.’”
It was a humorous moment, but the episode shows that Tebow was unwilling to make compromises about his religiosity despite creeping hostility toward Christianity.
Tebow once had a tweet labeled “sensitive material” because he talked about scripture.
And during his playing career, some in the sports media and even players on the field mocked his practice of praying after scoring a touchdown.
Mike Pence has been attacked repeatedly as anti-gay because of his religious faith; Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon spent the entire Winter Olympics ragging on Pence.
Even Pence’s wife Karen came under assault from left-wing journalists for teaching art at a Christian school.
America has become more secular, which is not a good sign for society.
It’s no accident that terrible ideas like socialism gain ground as societies lose faith in God.
Tebow has been able to keep the faith in a left-wing culture that does not respect it.
In addition to pursuing a Major League Baseball career, Tebow has also begun producing faith-positive content in Hollywood.
It’s refreshing to see someone stand up for traditional values in a culture that promotes vulgarity and dissolute behavior.
