8) Jaws
This is the first film of the list by the arguably the greatest composer of all time. Not just film composing, mind you, quite possibly so great that he would rival Mozart or Beethoven on Mount Rushmore of composers.
Do you know who is responsible for writing NBC’s Olympics theme fanfare? Yep, that’s John Williams who wrote that.
The reason why the “Jaws” score is so special is his balance between horror and action/adventure in his creation – specifically the difference between the musical motifs between the lurking giant shark and transversely when the main characters first venture out to kill the beast.
They are wildly different genres of music – when the shark is chasing them then it’s dark and brooding, but when they are chasing it’s a lighthearted uplifting adventure tone.
