Leftists have gone completely insane.
In their never-ending quest for the loosely defined social justice, leftists continue to eat themselves at an alarming rate.
The latest example comes in the form of liberal creator of “The Simpsons” Matt Groening, but the radical left were not prepared for what Groening had to say in response.
Due to the growth of outrage culture, “The Simpsons” came under attack for the Indian character of Apu because he supposedly reinforces negative Indian stereotypes.
The fake controversy forced Hank Azaria, the voice of Apu, to virtue-signal and declare he would stop voicing Apu if necessary.
However, creator Matt Groening was having none of it.
From The Daily Wire:
Who would have thought that “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening would become a crusader against political correctness?
In a recent interview with USA Today, Groening essentially told SJWs demanding he apologize for the character Apu to take their outrage and, well….you get the idea.
In recent days, social justice warriors have attacked “The Simpsons” character Apu, the beloved Kwik-E-Mart owner, for perpetuating Indian stereotypes. Documentary filmmaker Hari Kondabolu, spearheaded the attack, actually spending his own time and money to create a full-length film about how Apu perpetuates southeast Asian stereotypes.
Rather than cave to the social justice mob, “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening essentially flipped Kondabolu the bird in a recent episode depicting the show’s most progressive character Lisa telling the critics to take their outrage elsewhere.
The gesture from Groening deeply angered the SJWs and they have been out for blood since. Speaking with USA Today, Groening said he will not shelve Apu and castigated his critics for expressing phony outrage.
“I’m proud of what we do on the show,” said Groening. “And I think it’s a time in our culture where people love to pretend they’re offended.”
USA Today then asked: “In the April 8 episode, which addressed the Apu criticism and reignited controversy, what did it mean when Marge said, ‘Some things will be addressed at a later date,’ and Lisa said, ‘If at all’?”
Groening replied, “We’ll let the show speak for itself.”
The reply from Groening represents a stark contrast to the reply from actor Hank Azaria, who provides the voice for Apu. Appearing on the Stephen Colbert show recently, Hank Azaria went as far to say he would “step aside” from voicing Apu if it were “the right thing to do” (he has not yet stepped aside, however).
“The Simpsons” is a perfect encapsulation of how far leftists have dragged the culture radically left.
A show that was once considered counter-culture when it premiered in 1989 and grew throughout the ‘90s has now become “problematic” and not “woke” enough.
Groening, an old school liberal, has to be appalled by what the culture has become. After the silly Halloween costume controversy exploded at Yale, “The Simpsons” did an episode lampooning the embarrassing saga.
If Groening isn’t careful, he might get labeled a conservative.
