The NFL is destroying its brand with “woke” politics.
The league has experienced a significant backslide in viewership in 2020.
And the NFL just embraced one insane anti-American protest.
The NFL has tried to bring back fans after Colin Kaepernick’s anti-American anthem protest spread across the league.
In 2017 and 2018, fans turned away in droves.
Stadium attendance dropped and television viewership declined, which hurt advertising revenue.
NFL owners earmarked $89 million for social justice causes of the players’ choosing, and the protests died down in 2019.
Fans started to return to the game, but the trend has reversed now that the NFL has gone full “woke.”
In light of George Floyd’s tragic death in Minneapolis, the NFL decided to embrace the message of Black Lives Matter, an avowedly Marxist movement.
One of the initiatives taken up by the NFL was honoring black men killed by the police, but the league did a poor job of vetting the incidents.
The league recently honored Dreasjon Reed, who died after getting in a shootout with police officers.
Say His Name: Dreasjon Reed
Dreasjon is one of the many individuals being honored by players and coaches this season through the NFL’s helmet decal program.#SayTheirStories: https://t.co/vwi75WmNxr pic.twitter.com/wWaasw6LBp— NFL (@NFL) December 16, 2020
Officers pursued Reed after he drove recklessly.
The pursuit led to a foot chase where Reed fired at the officers as they tried to tase him.
In addition to this incident, surveillance footage showed that Reed stole the gun in question from a pawn shop and admitted to a friend via text message that he had participated in two drive-by shootings.
This isn’t the first time the NFL chose to honor a someone deeply immersed in criminal activity.
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey chose to honor a police officer killed in the line of duty instead of a young man named Antwon Rose because he was unaware that the cops chased him after he was involved in a drive-by shooting.
The NFL’s embrace of the Black Lives Matter narrative feeds into the anti-America narrative that the entire system must be torn down.
Many cities across the country burned for months over the summer because of chaos sown by BLM extremists and Antifa terrorists.
The NFL needs to get out of the social justice business and exclusively back into the football business.
Politics are divisive while sports are unifying.
The last thing the sports world needs is bleed-over from the corrosive world of politics.
