You already know that Robert Pattinson is going to don the new Batman suit for the upcoming Warner Bros. and DC venture. Most people thought, “that dude from Twilight?” but the truth is Pattinson has solidified himself as one of the top actors in Hollywood with recent outings in “Good Times” and “The Lighthouse.”
While some people were disappointed with Pattinson’s casting, they fail to realize that actors like Michael Keaton and Heath Ledger were also balked at when they were cast in their respective roles. Look what happened there.
And the upcoming “The Batman” just added some new cast and it’s officially going to be awesome.
Warner Bros. and DC hit the ball way out of the park with Todd Phillips’ “Joker” starring Joaquin Phoenix, which was surprising considering how dark and violent the Rated-R movie is in light of comparing it to a normal superhero flick.
It was the biggest October opening of all time in North America and it has made $213 million in only 13 days, but it has also made an obscene amount of money at the international box office, north of $900 million. That’s unprecedented and it is already the highest grossing rated-R feature ever.
A month ago, Warner Bros. and DC were trying to make splashes with the idea that Jonah Hill was going to play a major part in the new universe they were creating but that didn’t materialize because the actor allegedly wanted upwards of $10 million to play the role.
We already know that Robert Pattinson has been cast in the role of the greatest “superhero” detective but they also followed that up quickly with Zoe Kravitz playing Catwoman and Paul Dano playing The Riddler.
But now there are some new names.
According to sources, Colin Farrell – the Irish actor known widely for playing characters in “Dumbo,” “The Lobster,” “Roman J. Israel Esq” and “Saving Mr. Banks” is in final talks to play The Penguin in the upcoming movie.
It gets better too.
Andy Serkis is without a doubt the greatest CGI actor in all of Hollywood. You may have heard of him. He played Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings,” he played Caesar in all of the new “Planet of the Apes” movies, but he also played King Kong in Peter Jackson’s
“King Kong.” He’s the savant of CGI acting and everybody knows it.
Serkis will play Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth, and is in final negotiations to play the role.
And if you thought all of that was cool then wait until you get a load of this.
It’s still rumored at this point but Matthew McConaughey is in talks to play Harvey Dent which was famously played by Aaron Eckhart in “The Dark Knight,” who ultimately becomes “Two-Face.”
Nobody can take away how great Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy was but this is shaping up to be something really awesome from Warner Bros. They just released a Batman movie, “Joker,” and it has become the highest grossing movie for a rated-R movie of all time.
It seems like they know what they’re doing now and they are pulling out all the stops with this impressive cast.
