Months ago, Donald Trump made an impromptu statement that Sweden was enduring problems they’d never faced before.
The “problems” Trump was referring to was the European refugee crisis and how poorly attempts at assimilation were going.
Leftists laughed it off as bluster, then soon after, Muslim refugees engaged in an ugly riot. Now, Sweden is facing another problem that continues to get worse.
Sexual assaults in the country are rising, and as a result, a popular music festival is being canceled.
From The Guardian:
Sweden’s largest music festival has been cancelled next year due to reports of rape and sexual assaults at the event over the weekend.
Allegations of rape and sexual assault at several music festivals in recent years have sparked outrage in Sweden.
Police in the south-eastern district of Östergötland, where the annual Bråvalla festival took place, said they received four rape and 23 sexual assault reports between Thursday and Sunday.
One woman said she was forced to have sex with a man after changing her mind.
“Certain men … apparently cannot behave. It’s a shame. We have therefore decided to cancel Bråvalla 2018,” the festival’s organisers said.
The chief police investigator, Martin Hedberg, said: “Many reports [of sexual assault] come after they’ve happened so there are weak descriptions [of the suspects] and nothing more to go on.”
Last year, local media reported that five women were allegedly raped at the four-day festival, attended by thousands of people each year.
The prime minister condemned the incidents and called for more surveillance at festivals.
“This is so disgusting. These are obnoxious acts by deplorable men,” Stefan Löfven told the Swedish daily Expressen in televised comments on Sunday. “This must stop”
The prime minister said the government was in talks with the police about increasing surveillance at such events.
Last year, police were accused of withholding information about about alleged sexual assaults against women by young immigrants at a Stockholm summer music festival in 2014 and 2015.
But the Swedish prosecutor’s office later dropped an investigation into the case.
The rise in sexual assaults has directly correlated to the rapid influx of Muslim refugees. The perpetrators of the sexual assaults in 2014 and 2015 the article referenced were allegedly Afghan refugees.
There were other reports of refugee “rape gangs” in Cologne, Germany, Rotherham, UK, and other cities in Europe.
Sweden was over-ambitious in attempting to assimilate hundreds of thousands of refugees; out of 160,000, fewer than 500 were able to secure jobs.
Hundreds of thousands of jobless people living in ethnic enclaves (many designated by the police as “no-go zones” due to extreme violence) is a recipe for disaster.
The fact Sweden has a robust welfare state only exacerbates the problem.
Sweden, burdened by a pall of political correctness, has been evasive about the ethnicity of the perpetrators of the sexual assaults, but the statistics are hard to deny, though the left has tried.
Conservative-leaning journalist Ami Horowitz embarrassed CNN’s Don Lemon over the increase in crime, citing data from the Swedish government.
If refugees (many of them male, working-age, economic migrants) are committing these attacks, covering it up will only make the problem fester and build resentment.
“Certain men” sounds like tactful code. Until Sweden acknowledges it has a problem, it can’t fix it.
The country plans to take over 100,000 more refugees even though they haven’t successfully assimilated the last wave.
Compassion is good, but what Sweden is doing exemplifies hubris and virtual-signaling.
