After playing a clip of USWNT Captain Megan Rapinoe’s victory speech on Wednesday, MSNBC’s “Deadline” host Nicolle Wallace said of her, “you make us believe. God bless you.”
This is the kind of celebratory consensus going on right now for the United States women’s national team in the liberal media. It’s a straight up love affair.
But Rush Limbaugh called out Megan Rapinoe while blasting Colin Kaepernick and Nike in the process.
It’s been almost three years since disgraced former quarterback Colin Kaepernick first kneeled during the National Anthem, and while most flew to the defense of his protest because they claimed it was in response to police brutality against minorities; others found his actions to be incredibly offensive because we all have families that put their lives on the line daily so that we can enjoy American freedoms.
Nike is Kaepernick’s biggest endorsement. They made the embattled former San Francisco 49er the face of Nike’s 30th anniversary of the advent of their “Just Do It,” slogan.
Some reports said the enormous worldwide apparel brand kept Kaepernick on payroll even after he was out of the league for two years because they had been planning for that moment.
While many boycotted Nike for their decision, Nike sales and its stock continued to rise, much to the surprise of many. Then Nike decided to double down and shotgun an American-themed Kaepernick shoe with a Betsy Ross flag on the heel – the flag with thirteen stars that signifies how many colonies joined forces to defeat the British during the Revolutionary War.
Many are furious with Nike’s decision to nix the shoe deal but if you want to pay upwards of $15,000 then you can find them on eBay.
And then you have Megan Rapinoe – in a way she’s a Kaepernick-loving proxy – is on the national stage right now after the United States women’s national team defeated the Netherlands to take home the World Cup championship.
She refuses to sing the National Anthem and on Wednesday she refused to put her hand over her heart when it was playing.
Rush Limbaugh has had enough of Rapinoe’s divisiveness and that’s why he compared her to disgraced former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Limbaugh said, “What are we supposed to take from this? Somebody help me, is she LGBTQ? OK. OK. Then that’s what this means. She’s talking about the oppression of gays. And Trump wants to bring that back. That’s what Make America Great Again means. He wants to go back, and he wants people like her in the closet. There’s not a single utterance ever from Donald Trump on the subject. And, you know what? Anderson Cooper doesn’t care, as long as she’s saying it, mission accomplished. Cooper then said, ‘Can you see a day where you do put your hand over your heart and sing the national anthem?’”
She attended the White House when former President Barack Obama invited the USWNT after they won the World Cup in 2015 so maybe Rapinoe will change her mind again once a Democrat is in office.
Limbaugh also said, “So here we have the captain of the American women’s soccer team reluctant to sing the national anthem. Do you know what I think this babe may be angling for? Kaepernick. She wants a Kaepernick deal with Nike. Damn straight. She’s angling for a Kaepernick. She’s showing Nike she can be just as anti-American as Kaepernick. Give me a chance. Let me do the LGBTQ angle of Kaepernick.”
Basically she wants that Kaepernick money, which coincides with everything being reported about how unfair it is that the USWNT isn’t paid as much as their male counterparts in the same sport.
The irony here is that Rapinoe is a far better athlete than Kaepernick ever was, but the entire USWNT is spectacular at soccer as well. When Rapinoe missed the semifinals match against England, the team won the game single-handedly and didn’t need their captain. All of them are great. So why is Rapinoe getting all the attention?
